I bought a bottle of cheap name brand 10w-30 for the lawn mower. On the back label under "Protection that lasts" there is a list of severe service exclusions including frequent towing and excessive idling.

I don't remember seeing that on the Havoline bottle and I guess EM doesn't want to sell too much CLEAN 5000.

So I sure couldn't put that CLEAN 5000 with a list of severe service exclusions on the back label in my truck or car.

My B&S manual does not recommend any dino multigrade at temps over 40 F. I'm not much into mowing grass in cold weather so I use straight 30 dino in mine.

Clean 5000 is formulated specifically for your car or truck and would be fine to use. Most mowers are spec'd. for a straight 30wt.HD. You may not be doing your mower any favors by using a multi-grade. I find it convenient to pick up a Briggs&Stratton approved lawnmower 30HD at Wal-Mart or Tractor Supply.

Mowers do not need oils with PPD's and VII's and may need a different additive package for best results. They don't cold start, have catalytic converters, and may have fuel loading issues.

I hope you are not doing excessive towing with your mower. Is it OK to pull a cart around the yard if the blade isn't engaged?

I'm not an engineer but I think air-cooled engines probably have some different requirements. I got a two-stroke LawnBoy a few years ago so it's not an issue, but I save any leftover Mobil 1 10w-30 for the snowblower.
