I just bought a 93 Saab 900S with 105,000 miles. I don't know much about its maintenance history, but the exterior of the engine is clean and the car seems to run fine.

I have no idea what type of oil the previous wner used other than it is 10w-40 dino oil.

I live in Connecticut, which is subject to short periods of extreme cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

I would like to pick a year round dino oil to use. Should I continue to use 10w-40? I'm not too concerned about price, but I do not intend to switch to synthetic oil.

I also plan on an autorx treatment and would just assume start with my new oil.

I appreciate any help as I greatly respect everyone's knowledge here on the boards.

Thanks,

Louis P.

SAAB recommends 20W-50 above 5'F for this car.

If you insist on all-season oil, I would recommend a "High-Mileage" 10W-40, such as Castrol GTX 10W-40. However, if you continue to use brand name 10W-40 non-synthetic, that would be fine too.

My 1986 900 absolutely loves 20W-50 in warm weather.

15w-40 Mobil Delvac 1300S comes to mind to help clean out from the previous owner. Believe me, after coming to the Forum, you will not be satisfied with an unknown service history and want to improve on it. Why not synth? Mobil 1 5w-40 will work great in all aspects as well as $3 Shell Rotella T synth 5w-40. That is the typical Euro viscosity for year-round. 15w-40 dino for summer.
