I was in Kragen. I use the commercial desk since this was for work.

I went back there and found 3 Kragen employees, a customer and 1/2 dozen Fram oil filters spread out on the counter.

The customer had a STP #S2908 filter. They tried to cross referance this filter and it came out to a Fram Ph3593A.

I even looked in the book and it did cross over. Unfortunatly the book was wrong!

The 3593A had smaller threads and a smaller gasket. So someone goofed this one up in the book.

So they were just grabbing filters off the shelf to see if they would fit!

I'm like "Whats the bypass setting? Does it even have a bypass valve?" etc.

These ppl had no clue! I explained to them that they needed the specs from the old filter then they could go through the book and find one thats very close and should work ok.

I told them that just grabbing any old filter that would screw on the engine was a bad idea and every one agreed.

When I left they stil had not found the correct filter though.

Oh well... I tried anyway.

This might be a "duh" question but why didn't anyone ask them what vehicle the filter was for?

There's a parts catalog with all them shiny cars listed.

It was from some sort of machinery. No listing in the book.
