I have AVG 8.0 and XP SP3 installed yesterday. No problems, and I do not feel any differences either.
 
I had the beta version and have now replaced it with the actual SP3 and no issues at all. In fact I think XP SP3 is about as good as it gets!!! LOL I am a huge XP fan since I like my operateing systems to work and work well!!!

If you leave all of the suite programs to run on the avg 8.0 you will notice more memory consumed by AVG. Also the link scanner made websites take an additional 20 seconds to load. :)
 
Installed sp3 on two DELL puters no problems that i can see,whats
the deference between sp2 and sp3 anyway???

also uninstalled avg 8.0 and went back to 7.5,but updates will end for 7.5 in 1 year..

This week? How much regression testing against your own application set have you done?


A fair bit, I have had no issues with it, tested the BETA and also tested RTM when it was on technet and we found out the final build number.

It is also being deployed on a common hardware and software base, which I have tested against (it's a very basic config) and there were no issues.

BUT, given the above, I have still encountered scenarios with 2K where a service pack, even being deployed onto identical hardware with identical software, will still cause bizarre issues on one machine and none on the rest, hence my "we'll see how that goes" comment :D

I just installed SP3. Yea, took about a half hour, but holy moly, my machine is definitely faster. No issues to speak of (knock on wood). I have a P4 3.2Ghz processor in the infamous Dell Insprion 5150 laptop - known to overheat like crazy. So I have the processor throttled back to half speed so it runs cool. SP3 is about as fast as before with it at full throttle.

One item of note that I've read: disable ALL security software before you install SP3. That eliminates much of the issues.

Also, use CCleaner and defrag afterwards. SP3 installation left 123 dud registry entires behind. I also use Auslogics registry defrag.

My machine is now lightning fast!

Installed tonight on an old Dell 2400. No issues, booted right up. Also ran CCleaner afterwards. The install left alot of registry junk. Noticed no real performance increase. Tomorrow I'll install on wife's Dell XPS laptop.

It is free. I donated $20 years ago since it was such a valuable program. I get all new updates in my email the day they come out.

Mine Dell is a 2400 also. I am not seeing a speed increase with SP3. No problems noticed. Just the regular stable XP.
