Would you consider this a dirty intake?

The car is a Volvo S40 with 260,000km and this part has never been cleaned. Should I do something or is this just plain normal??

Looks normal to me, I wouldn't worry about it. On the other hand, I'm not as compulsive about this sort of thing as some people are.

Thanks! I took this pic last weekend when replacing my PCV system components which requires removal of the intake manifold. Now that everything is put back together, I ask if this was normal..........well I'm happy it is because I'm not sure I would have pull things apart another time in less than a week

The valves look rather clean, that's what would matter to me.

Looks fine. That's just normal surface discoloration. Alloys are are prone to discolor. Deposit buildups cause the problems. The valves look tidy. If it troubles you that much, toss in a bottle or two of Regane or Techron.
