Would you buy a new Mitsubishi?

My preferred off-road vehicle these days is a Kubota L3800 or my Nissan Titan. I’m mostly looking for an AWD vehicle for driving in bad weather and road trips.

Tell me about the 4WD button. When in 2WD mode does it truly lock out the rear wheels or is is on-demand? My assumption is that it is not, otherwise what is 4WD mode for? I think I understand 4 lock because my wife’s RAV has a button on the dash that locks the diff under 35mh.
The best way to explain it is that it's a very simple design. 95% of the time I only use it in 2wd. The center of the dash indicates what mode you are in when you press the button above the shifter. Here is a video so you can see the options.

Wow a salesman that actually knows his product and drives it personally too. 👍

In real life he is a good guy....
I have talked to him several times and he just like me tells you in his videos to dump the Nexen tires...

@Elkins45 would you get on with it and buy your Mitsubishi?! This thread and @Zee09 has got me itching to buy one and I can’t buy any more vehicles right now. 😛

If you buy one I can scratch the itch vicariously through you LOL.

I did check the market here plenty available for low 20s but as mentioned high trim levels are scarce.

Mitsubishis are reasonably cheap at the wholesale dealer auctions and the high-end Outlanders are comparable to a luxury level European SUV.

One strange thing. When I do but a 4WD version it's almost always one that I source from the Southeast USA and then send up north. There are sometimes one or two available in the Midwest but they are almost always rental car fodder with high miles.

Feel free to PM me if you're interested in having one shipped from south of the Mason-Dixon.

Yes, I read it. It was interesting but I’m not sure how relevant it is to a little compact SUV. To me a vehicle must have a low range gearbox to qualify as a true off-roader.

I’m not buying anything while I’m still out here in the middle of the ocean.

It's not relevant at all. It's like saying the latest Jeep Compass or Renegade is awesome off-road because Jeep built the CJ in the 80's

Yeah, you're right. Maybe I was reaching a little to far there.

Where are those little Suzuki Samauri or Geo Trackers for $13K new when you need them. Had one up a mountain bike trail.
They out Jeep, Jeep.

Had many Colts ( 80s' > '91 ) , a Plymouth Champ ( '82 ? ) , and a '92 (or '91 ?) Eagle Summit sedan . The engines were 1.4 , 1.5 and 1.6 ltr.. Most were 1.4 Ltr. with a 4 speed manual and a 5 speed manual for the Summit . The CHAMP had a twin stick that was a 4 speed manual with a another stick with Economy / Power mode that lowered the gear ratio for hills , etc.. The Power helped to get through unplowed roads . Its 1.6 Ltr. engine went over 120,000+ miles of stop and go delivery 7 days a week . The body gave out while the engine and tranny were fine . It's my 2nd all time favorite vehicle that was bought for under $200 . Put $200 in it for new clutch , O.C. , plugs , wires and engine air filter . All were MITSUSHI . Each were fun to drive and had very little issues . Last ,they were easy to maintain .

Well, life is funny. I had decided to make an offer on one but life got in the way. Our flight was cancelled and moved a day later, then my wife had a fall and broke two ribs. When I pulled up the dealers web page the discounts have been reduced and the prices have gone back up, replaced with a “trade assistance” bonus which does nothing for me. I may still make the same offer…worst they can do is say no.

A (relatively) close Mitsubishi dealer has a couple of new 2024 Outlander Sport models still on the lot, the cheapest of which is advertised at $23,900. Mitsubishi is offering a 5/60K full and 10/100K powertrain warranty on these, which might make me feel better about buying a vehicle with a CVT.

The closest comparable deal on a new AWD I have seen is a base Subaru Impreza for around $26K and but also has a CVT. I've never even seen (much less driven) an Outlander Sport. The cheapskate in me is intrigued but the skeptic is worried that Mitsubishi might well exit the US market before the warranty expires. Of course there's a less than zero possibility I might also exit the planet before the warranty expires too, so...

Would you buy a new Mitsubishi if you liked the way it drove, and the price was right?
No, unless it was so cheap I was positive I could sell it quickly for a profit. Not to personally own and drive for myself.

You seem to own reputable cars now, why ruin it the rep ? Mitsubishi & Dodge used to be married back in the 80's. Wonder if Stellantis and Mitsubishi are in a relationship now. Will end in a divorce anyway. Stay away.

Sorry to hear what happened. Hope your missus has a speedy recovery.💐

Well, as they say,, there is no hell. Life is hell. Try the same offer, dealers are hurtin too. They might take the worm on the hook. ( Trump tariffs aren't helping you either ) Broken ribs hurt something fierce, I've had them. Feel bad for her. Will take some time, but they'll heal. Too bad doctor's aren't dishin out pain meds like they use to. " Oh, we don't want you getting addicted " they say. I know about that too. Had a disc replacement 6-16-25, and they've been tryin to cut back on my pain meds already. DON"T MAKE HER LAUGH :) It hurts. Best to the both of you. :)
