Why?
It can be used many more times.
What a waste.
A more relevant analogy would be
Each time you refill the fuel tank in your vehicle, do you change the fuel filter? It could be mostly clogged, the old filter is full of old fuel, and new ones are cheap, etc.

Man,the OCD on this place is getting out of hand.

Wrong and wrong again!

What's the advantage of re-using a used filter that's already been removed?

$$$$ savings and take your pick of either recycling energy used or landfill space needed to accommodate.
There's also a 3rd wrong again....... that filter you;re taking off is probably only 25-33% used-up. What a waste!

Probably isn't easy to determine. Therefore safe to run the filter out to the manufacture's recommendation, but not much beyond.

To cut down on wasting resources, the car manufacturers should start putting a delta-p sensor across the oil filter that tells the owner when to change the filter. And quick lube places should stop pushing the 3 month/3000 mile OCI.

All this hand wring at BITOG..... If I got a tee I could put a spare mechanical oil pressure gauge in front of my filter to see how it compares to my digital oil pressure gauge after the filter.
