An Ingles supermarket opened near me. It's basically, a SE-USA chain. They had a motor oil called WOLF'S HEAD. Cool graphics...

WHILE ON THE SUBJUCT OF OFF BRAND OILS, DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE TRAVELER BRAND OILS SOLD AT TRACTOR SUPPLY? TRYED SOME ONCE BECAUSE OF 1.02 PRICE TAGE. FELT REALLY SLIPPERY ANYWAY. SEARCHED THE WEB, BUT THAT GOT ME NO WHERE. NEVER HEARD OF WOLF'S HEAD.

Wolf's Head is an old brand name that at one time was very popular in the PA and New England area. It is now made at the old Quaker State Congo plant in Newell, WV.

John Belushi's character to Dan Ackroyd's character in the movie "Neighbors," as Belushi is giving Ackroyd his car (an AMC!) in an extremely generous gesture: "Use Wolf's Head 30 weight. It'll never let you down." I thought that was a Hollywood fabrication until I saw a porcelain Wolf's Head sign at a bar years later. One of those old-school brands without much purpose, and refuses to die. Otherwise, probably a perfectly acceptable "SL" oil.

thanks lobo11. I was there buying havoline myself but i did buy some traveller to put in my farm truck just to give it a whirl. who knows, it could be the deal of the century or more snake spit.

It is in too good of a supply at TSC not to be an acceptable product, at least in my mind. I know farmers who used Mystic products for years in all their equipment and swore by it, and it wasn't a household name. I am confident if there were any doubts with the Traveller brand, TSC wouldn't be stocking it.

twigdog-I posted a similar question about a month ago and got no response. Since TSC sells Chevron Supreme at my location for $1.24 I never have bought any. I know in the past TSC sold Mystic oils, and now they carry this Traveller. I wondered if it isn't a Citgo oil like Mystic bottled for TSC, but I have no idea, just speculating based on their past suppliers. I would be interested to know as well.
