I understand taht Pennzoil makes Wolf's Head oil. Are they the same oil? But in different bottles? Same Z-7 additive package?

The Wolfs Head plant in Reno, Pa., was sold.

It was a realy small plant on the river. Its

now a small chemical plant. I saw Pennzoil trucks

there many times.

Wolf's Head?

Sounds like the name of an ale I used to drink. That might explain my headaches.

With apologies to Mary Poppins"

Just a little bit - of Pennzoil - makes the -
medicine go - medicine go down -.......

The Wolf's Head spec. sheets are (or were)available on the Pennzoil web page. Specs are far worse than Pennzoil and inferior to Quaker State or SuperTech (WalMart) oil. Johnny's right, it's clearly their economy oil.

Spec. Sheets for Pennzoil related brands. SuperTech spec. sheet is outdated for SJ rated oil. Wolf's Head flash point is pretty good but bad pour point... This is for 10W30.

10W30 SuperTech Pennzoil Quaker St. Wolf's Head

Visc 100c 11.0 10.5 10.5 10.5

Johnny-- Am I right in reading that Pennzoil is a superior dino. oil-- right up there with the fabled Chevron, and that the other three are roughly equal?

csandste: I would change your wording to say the fabled Chevron has finally come up to Pennzoil standards. And the rest is close now.

Here is why I say this. I know barrier lubrication is very important, but so is the base stock. Pennzoil has been using Group II+ base stock for 6 years while everyone else set on their butts. Chevron has had this technology for over 10 years, but never used it in anything except their Delo 400 on the west coast only. Now that all the new specs are coming out (mainly SJ and SL) everyone is starting to use the Group II base stocks. And finally now the field has narrowed.

I would venture to say that any SL rated(or even SJ for that matter) oil can easily handle 3k intervals in most cars without degrading all that much.

The Wolf's Head "brand" has been sold several times in the past year and I don't know who owns it now! I think Pennzoil sold it to one of the blenders. Irrespective, there is no longer any true "Wolf's Head"; it is now just a name and could be blended just about anywhere..

Wolf's Head has been owned by Pennzoil for the past 20 years. It is now blended at one of the old Quakers State blending plants that they call Congo. I think it is in Virginia. But we still own it. Not sure what will happen to it after the Shell deal.

Hehehe, kinda the same way Kendall is going - Just a name with nothing to back it up

Well,...Wolf's Head has been a cheapie brand and still it. Kendall is one of ConocoPhillips brands, and has the same oil as their 76 brand oils...probably C+ quality oil. I've checked a couple of data sheets--the ones I've seen are identical between 76 & Kendall.
