Did a change on a coworker's 02 sonoma 4.3. I "knew" it was a PF52. Had short notice so had to get the filter at Walmart b/c everyone else was closed. Did not know the ST cross reference, think it's 3980, so I look it up on the computer.
I knew from previous research the short PF47 was used on 2wd trucks but the long PF52 on 4wd with the remote fitting. Get to Walmart and their filter machine recommended many 3387s and PF47s (the same- I use these on 3.1s, 2.2s, etc and am very familiar with their cross references) without regard for 2- or 4- wheel drive.
Oddly there were several orphaned genuine AC Delco PF52s sitting there looking lonely on the shelf.
Get the cool little trap door open on his GMC (he's getting sick of going to the dealer so I figure I'll save his lost soul) and there's a purty PF52 staring me in the face.
Blah blah blah, I was in a hurry, didn't want to waste the gas to return the filter, yadda yadda. Still frosts me when the idio-computer isn't up to date with what is, or isn't, on the shelf as they reduce part # inventory.
