I asked some filter size questions of Wix via email. In response they sent me their Master Catalog! Here are the oversize filter options I've been able to discern for the 20X1.5mm thread size. Here's hoping this formats correctly.

At my next Odyssey oil change I will be checking to see if the 2.834/2.462 gasket seals properly. It does on my '89 Mazda MX-6 GT. The Wix 51182 is HUGE! I bought one to try from O'Reilly yesterday for $11. I've been using the Purolator 20253 on my Mazda for a while with good results. The Wix 51324 is the equivalent.

code:

BTW, I just looked up the Purolator xref to the 51182 (the REALLY BIG one). L34480 is the number, and this one has a 15psi bypass setting.

Nice data. That stuff is hard to find in one place. Thanks.

Hope you don't mind, I think this will format a bit better.

XS650 - thanks for the reformat. What was the "trick"?

If anyone needs a different thread size chart, I'll be happy to work on it as I have time. Just let me know...

Tabs can cause problems when going from one medium to another. I replaced a bunch of them with spaces. The only tabs that really needed to be replaced were in your top line with the column titles.

If you'd like more options (some with very similar dimentions, some much larger) AND better availability (like the FL-1A for instance), you could change the filter threads to 3/4x16 while keeping the M20x1.5 threads in your block. I did it to my Subaru and I'm using the Purolator PL20195 (FL-400 equiv). I've described how I did it here on BITOG. If you had the room you could then use the 6.9 inch by 3.78 inch Purolator 40017. Now THAT'S a big filter

With the volume of the Wix 51182 / Purolator 34480 I'm not all that concerned about bigger filters. However, I am curious about the source for your Mopar part number. Google only comes up with your BITOG page!

Where'd you get it?

It was a Jeep forum somewhere...... I really don't remember. I googled 20x1.5 AND 3/4x16. IIRC, it was part of an oil cooler setup that someone had documented.

I understand you may not want something larger than what's available w/ 20x1.5, this would just give you the alternative of easier to find part numbers like the Purolator 20195 or 30001.

I just re-read your last post. Did you mean where did I purchase it? That I do remember, at the local Jeep dealer.

Personally I would not go that route because if anyone else ever attempts to maintain the car they are going to find that the standard filter for the vehicle doesn't work.

NO ONE does routine maint. on my car except myself. Besides, if for some unimaginable situation where someone else was changing my filter, they'd just put on whatever flavor filter they sell that crosses to the PL20195 I've got on there now.

Dave, Just be aware that a 20x1.5mm might screw onto the 3/4-16 spud by hand. It would be severly lacking in thread engagement.

Most shops go by what their computer says should be on the car rather than by crossing whatever is on there now. Also, the metric and SAE threads are close enough that an unaware person might think they were doing OK putting the wrong thing on.

Certainly if you ever sell the car it would be a nice move to put it back to the original configuration.

OK OK OK!!! Like I said, NO ONE does routine maint. on my car except myself And yes, I've kept the original part. Jheesh! You'd think I'd mixed Redline w/ AutoRX or called someone a name. I was just offering an alternative.

Happy Chanukkah everyone

I removed conector from 2.6 Dodge [Mitsubishi],it was about 3" long had local machine shop make new one metric combo SAE cost 15.00 instaled with B2 Baldwin and 10/30 M1. Works great. This is a $6 savings between the B2 and a Wix 51182. Thanks for the Idea. NEMIR

Your welcome

$15 is less than what I would have guessed for a custom part. I think the Mopar part I bought was around $8.

older i see but interested as well as i would like to use the PH8A with 3/4 X 16 threads on my 20 X 1.5 MM tiny factory spin on. i seen a diagram showing the mounting of the water cooled base.

you can go to the Wix site + check ALL their filters by size with full specs. with my nissan the smallish base is the issue with most bigger filters. i found the wix 51344 with a similar gasket diameter but its gasket is about 35% thinner, gotta check one out + compare. its listed for many engines on equipment like excavators + loaders etc but the specs work, so its prolly not a stock item, we will see!! as noted on this forum the XP filter full specs are missing some data as they are said to be for longer life rather than better filtering.
