One other feature that makes the element appear to have close tolerance is the series of nubs seen on the base endcap designed to hold the element in place. This may be because Wix uses a coil spring retainer as opposed to a leaf spring.

WIX is hard to find in North Jersey and the smaller auto parts stores that may have them are not cheap. My distributor carries them but for the average motorist they are hard to find, that is the only good thing about purolator, they are all over too bad they are not a good filter anymore. Very sad.
just buy NAPA Platinum or Gold on sale
I have made the same switch, Purolator (P1) to Wix, due to tear experiences. Still running the first ones. But this is encouraging, not that I ever doubted Wix...
