It's Currently 6:51pm. I need to go to sleep...
My Parents have a 6 am Flight in out of Columbus in the morning. I Volunteered to drive them.
6am Flight, means they need to be at the airport by 4a (90min-120min before flight).
Said Airport is roughly 2 hrs from here (little over 100 mi)
which means we need to leave by 2am, which for me means getting up between midnight and 1am.
Drop them at the airport @ 4, then scurry the 2 hrs back home, in time for my 6a-2:30p shift.( I was only able to trade shifts by an hour, originally scheduled 5a-1:30p)

so... 4-5 hrs of sleep (realistically) drive 4hrs/200 mi, then work my full shift (which involves walking roughly 7 mi over the course of the day)
Luckily I have Tues& Weds off, so after work Monday, I can go home and Die.

I'm all for taking care of family re such transportation episodes but, it would've been interesting to see what a car service would've charged.
There are enough wasted driven miles and sleep hours involved plus the pressure of arriving at work on time.

On the other hand, if y'all live in one household, the house will be abuzz early and any slumberer chauffeur would get tortured sleep and engender feelings of neglect when you don't help with the luggage. That could be a lose-lose.

You're better off doing what your doing. Hey, that's what we're in good shape for. You're off work at 2;30 anyway.
Let this be a practical wake-up call for your body.

We'll judge you later.

Are they traveling out of the country ? If not, there's certainly no need to be there that early ahead of the flight. CMH isn't an enormous airport either. Then again, you still need that early drop-off in order to get back to work on time.

That sucks. Kinda like having the eight to twelve watch and then relief doesn't show and you have to stand the twelve to four. Get to sleep in a few hours and do day work. Difference is on a ship you just have to go up a few decks from where you were sleeping.

Be very careful on your drive back. If you get tired, pull off.

My parents travel an awful lot, but they have mastered the art of staying at a hotel by the airport the previous night. There is usually a shuttle that takes them to the airport. And a lot of places allow for free parking in their lot if you stay at their hotel, which often covers the cost of the hotel stay.

so I'd have gotten them a hotel room dropped them off now lol.
Thats just too rough.

This, plus avoiding checked bags along with TSA pre it's a breeze.

You got it! I do this routine several times a week.

nothing that grand.. Flying to Denver, then a 3 hr drive to my Aunt's house in extremely Rural SE Colorado. (Wiley if anyone's Familiar with that part of the Country)
The CMH website calls for arrivals 90min before scheduled departure, and as our Surname is EARLY, dad always like to be...
(me, I was born 3 weeks late and "haven't been on time for anything since")

we thought about the Hotel deal...
the whole reason I'm driving them is b/c neither of them is familiar with the area around CMH, Mom Doesn't "Do Well" driving in cities, and Dad, while Stubborn, has Parkinson's and is starting to Forget things... and being in their mid-late 70's their night vision isn't spectacular.

meanwhile, My best Friend lives Literally a couple miles south of CMH (near James and Main if anyone's familiar), and I "go to the airport" every time I go visit him... I can get to CMH with my eyes closed.(not a plan, just saying)

add to that, I didn't get off until 4pm today, which at the earliest would have had us to a hotel around 6-6:30pm.
so in essence they'd be paying around a Hundred Dollars for a bad 4-5hr nap, and add in schlepping their bags to/from the room.... just... I'll Drive in the wee hours....
and yes, It's 9:30 and I'm still awake. FUN!

I check into a hotel near the airport the night before. Saves your sanity and is much safer. You can all hit the sack at 9 and rise at 3:00 AM. You can escort your guests to security at the airport, then drive home.

I did the sleep deprivation routine for years when I ran my web hosting business, plus several side-hustles to make ends meet. The good news is that it took several more years for the health consequences to finally show up. One night of sleep deprivation and anticipation/lack of being able to fall asleep coupled with a full day of work? You'll be fine.

Try starting work at 6AM, work till 2 AM the next day, sleep 4 hours to start a regular 8 hour day at 7:30am. You do what you got to do.

My last day at work (Sunday):

Up at 02:00* - shower, breakfast, hour long ride to the airport, security, walk through multiple terminals, flight plan, brief flight crew, brief with ground crew.

Push back in London Heathrow at 07:00

Fly 200+ people across the Atlantic while conducting training on a new pilot.

Land Newark 3:00PM

13 hour day. But it’s not over.

Catch a flight to IAD at 7:00PM. change planes. Flight to ORF at 10:00PM. Land at 11:00PM.

Drive home. Arrived at 12:00 Midnight. 22 hours awake.

Bed by 12:30AM. Up at 05:30 to take my wife to the hospital.

Your day seems pretty easy, honestly. You slept in later than I did. Shorter day at work than I had. Got home sooner. Didn’t have to get up early the next day.

And I’m a decade or two your senior.

My Temple which I don’t go to much anymore is down the road in Bexley a few miles from James and Main. I was just at John Glenn International on Saturday to drop a carton of cigs off to my younger sister that flew to Poland. Spoke of on page 144 in the random photo thread. James and Main is a bad area. I’m in Worthington for the next few weeks until I move into my new home. But James and Main is one of those areas where crack heads can buy a stem in a mom & pop carryout.
