That is my name for my sitdown mower. It is much battered but functional enough for my needs. I've had it 15 yrs. For the last few yrs, I replace worn out parts with new when I can find them. or make them. Last yr I bought a 2 gallon jug of Universal hydraulic oil at TSC. The label said it was compatible with Hy-Trans that IH specced. This is a IH Cadet 80 lawn "tractor" Not, with a vertical engine, it isn't. Thats a mower by my way of thinking. Anyway, I took out the rear drive so I could invert it into a 5 gallon bucket overnight. To empty out the ? hydro oil through the gazinta. . Okay, some oil did come out of the unit through the fill. Also I drained the diff and it has 1/2 pipe plugs for fill and drain. They built stuff right in the 70s. I did a drain last summer and filled the diff with what looks to be 20 w 20 oil. No bad smells or anything, but the hydro has been getting logy climbing hills etc. I think it was sold with a 6 hp B+S flathead. When I rescued it from under a tree it had an 11 HP B+S I/C electric start. A new one the owner said. It would do wheel stands when I got it going, lately 'not so much. and it will make noise climbing a slope that it never used to. I used the hydro oil. The unit has a case that appears to be just 2 castings bolted together. I figure they share the same oil. I am confident that I will be mowing with it by Wednesday at the latest. The engine oil stays clean and clear. It got a new coil when I fried it back in '01. The Inty has brawnier frame rails than the Rat. It has a cast front axle. It is pretty much my main mower with the Toro as a trimmer. Its main trouble is that 40 yrs of metal to metal connections gets a little sloppy in Clearances on the joints and linkages have worn away . So steering isn't precise. Any insights would appreciated as to fixing stuff. TIA

Andy, I'm a little confused, but if the question is in regards to the sloppy steering, if the sloppy joints aren't designed with bushings, all you can do is replace the steering knuckles with new parts or come up with a DIY repair for the slop. Your own bushings, etc.
