Will XD3 0W-30 be a good choice in my 4.7L Dakota?

I am currently using Mobil1 5W-30 year round. I already make trips to the Esso bilk dealer for Mobil 0w-40 for my VW Passat. I figure I might as well pick up some XD-3 for the Dakota as well (a little cheaper than M1). Will the XD3 be a good choice? the W30 or W40? Or should I stick the 5W-30 Mobil 1?

thanks.

Hello:

Im running the XD3 0w-30 for approx 1 yr in my 2000 5.2L. I know the 4.7 is a different design but I see no problem with running the 0w-30. My oil pressure stays up at hot idle and in the winter the truck barks right up at -40C. At half the price of German Castrol its a no brainer in my opinion.

Agreed. Use 0w-40 in my 318 CID Dakota. It started with absolutely NO problems down to over thirty below. The fuel economy has suffered slightly with the forty-weight and shall be using thirty-weight at the next change-out (which shall be a while as it sees little use). My 1.8T Jetta and my wife's Corolla are currently using GC and I may reconsider synthetic XD-3 for all of them the next go-around...

YES!

0w30 will be perfect seeing it is a heavier 30 weight..

Plus it is half the price.

I use it in my 4.3L in my Blazer and couldn't be happier.
