Will PureONE PL14619 fit the VQ35HR?

Anyone with a modern VQ35HR know if the larger OD of the PL14619 will still fit? I would like to use the PL14619 if it does, rather than the PL14610 with half the surface area of filter material. I searched, but cannot find anyone mentioning whether they tried the PL14610 on their VQ35HR. Specifically, this would be for a 2012 EX35, but I'll give it a try if anyone can confirm proper fitment on any VQ35HR app. Thanks.

It also has a good ADBV, so I get no start-up rattle. The L14619 has 175 sq in of filter media in the same size can. The gasket on the PL14619 is rather larger than the 14610/12, but it works just fine on my engine. For comparison, I measured 103 sq in of media in a L14610 filter.
 
The gasket is on the sealing edge for that engine and probably will not seal. I haven't tried it because of my visual inspection. The Purolator PL14610 is a good choice but the media is 40 microns. The Mobil m1-105 is 25 micron and is my choice for that engine.
 
I know the 14610 and 14459 will fit on a 2004 Altima with the VQ35 engine. Purolator doesn't give sealing gasket dimensions, but you can see the 14619 can is slightly over a 1/4 in radius (1/2 dia) larger than the 14459 which is a pretty close fit if I recall. But "Asterix" in that other thread makes it sound like he has used the 14619. If you look at Baldwin filters you can find 7 of 8 filters of varying size and length that might fit(all larger than stock). ROD
 
My VQ3.5s sucked so much dirt I switched them to the Amsoil filters. Much, much improved. I also used the P114610, M1 option, and K&N option, but none compared to the Amsoil in UOAs.
 
Cool, thanks for all the info guys. I looked at the parts diagrams for the engine and it appears the RWD and AWD (which I have) versions are different. While the RWD filter mounts sideways directly on the block, the AWD uses a bracket so the filter is mounted facing the front of the car. I would be a lot more inclined to modify that bracket rather than grind down the block to fit this filter (which I have read some here have done), so it may be possible that I can get it to fit on this car. Alternatively, I could maybe have a custom oil filter bracket fabricated in order to accomodate the larger OD of the PL14619. Looks like the only way I'm going to unravel this is to buy a PL14619 and try it out for fitment, then return it if it doesn't fit. However, like I said, if modification of the bracket looks possible after I take a closer look, that might be a viable option as well.

Which Amsoil filter did you use specifically? EA15K12? I'm also seeing the Wix 51358 for this app.
 
These might work--the clearance should allow for a 5" tall filter from eyeballing it. Between these, I think the 51347 would work better though for this app because it has a By-Pass Valve Setting of 8-11 PSI as opposed to the 51182 which is 24 PSI and is intended for turbo diesel Peugeots, unless that isn't a concern (not sure, still learning!). Seems like lower would be better for this n/a engine though, and is closer to the specs of the Purolator filters that we know are appropriate for this engine. Anyone know what the surface area of the filter element is in the Wix 51347?
 
The 51182 also fits a V6 2.8L gas engine and as the filters get bigger you can run a lower by-pass. If the 51182 had a 8 to 12 by-pass it would be the one I would use. You can take a look at a Baldwin B168 and B199 filters, both are big at 129 or 130 mm tall(around 5 1/8")Baldwin makes good strong filters. I use Baldwin filters on all my toys and all my toys run oversize filters. I run the B7042 on my '06 S2000 and it is over twice as big as the stock filter that came on my S2000. My son uses the 51347 on his '09 Honda instead of the little filter that came on the car. ROD
 
What I did was have in my hand a filter that I knew would fit and a PL14619 that I wasn't sure would fit when I did my oil change. Pull the filter gasket off the filter and hold it up on the engine. If it doesn't look like it fits, put the usable filter on and take the PL14619 back to the store. The '04 350Z has a "oil cooler" (actually an oil warmer) between the block and filter. The sealing surface on the warmer is big enough for the PL14619. There's a bracket close by so a can larger than 3.7OD will not fit. There's plenty of room for a filter 5" or longer. I didn't consider the 51182 because of the 24psi bypass valve. Physically, it would fit. The 51347 would fit on my car, fer sure. I may buy one to cut open, though the PL14619 has a larger can by volume.

Thanks Asterix, that was my thinking too. I'll get both filters from O'Reilly and see if I can get the PL14619 to fit. I agree that 24psi for the bypass valve on the Wix 51182 is way too high and I wouldn't use it on this engine, but I may try to see if the Wix 51347 would fit. It might have a better chance of fitting since it only has a 2.92" OD as opposed to the 3.7" OD of the PL14619, but is over an inch taller, so the 51347 would be a good substitute for the PL14619 in applications where the wider mouth of the PL14619 wont fit but there is enough clearance in the engine bay for a 5" tall filter. One thing I havn't been able to confirm is the nominal micron rating of the PL14619, which is pretty good at 21 for the Wix 51347.

It should be 99.9% @ 20 microns, as there are only 4 small spin-on PureOnes that are rated at 99.9% @ 40 microns. Look on the box, it will say what the efficiency rating is.

I emailed Purolator to find out the micron ratings of the PL14619 and PL14610. The only info on their web page is the 99.9% efficiency claim *Based on ISO 4548-12 at 20 microns on PL30001*

The PL14610 is 99.9% @ 40 microns. The PL14619 is 99.9% @ 20 microns. All of Purolator's efficiency ratings are "based on ISO 4548-12 at 20 microns on the PL30001", as stated on each filter box and on their website. Checkout this post. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...rue#Post1770192 These are the PureOne spin-on filters that will say "99.9% @ 40 microns" on the box. All other PureOne filters will say "99.9% @ 20 microns" on the box. I was told by Purolator that all of their cartridge PureOne filters are also 99.9% @ 40 microns.
