ok my brother texts me today that he needs a favor and that is to take my 02 ford escort zx2 to Michigan From Chicago. About an 8 hour drive to the destination one way.

my car has 44k miles all original. at 45K it will meet its 3k OCI.
Is it okey if i go over 3k considering it will get a ton of highway miles?

Also my serpentine belt is original and has small cracks all over it but works fine.... Would this be a concern?

Or should he just ask my dad for the 07 civic which is treated like a queen? (But i don't want him to take that car)

Absolutely nothing wrong with the oil OCI.

The belt is no guarantees, but they take a lot of abuse before failing.

Little perpindicular cracks help serpentine belts flex.

Something like this was probably getting iffy enough to replace. You could look at it as "it made it this far".

Your brother will be fine.

No problems at all on the oil. Change the serp belt when he gets home. They cost around $20 or so.

8 hours from Chicago to Michigan? Where is he going, the UP? I used to do downtown Chicago to Detroit north suburbs in under 5 hours.

he told me its far up around 7-8 hours.
the car is a stick shift and going 60 it will be reving at around 2700k

i trust my bro with the car he is a good driver.
I was going to change the serpentine belt but clearance is very tight to do so.

and that belt is exactly how mine looks like hehe

Fresh oil and filter would be a no brainer for an 8hr trip, plus if your belt looks like the one in the pic I would change it, quik and easy fixes for peace of mind on your trip

well i got off my lazy put and took the belt of.
i will be getting a new one shortly.
Safe should be Safe and sound now.

Serpentine belts always have cracks on the inside (ribbed side). When the cracks start showing up on the outside is when you should be concerned

Now you just need to drive around town a couple of hundred miles to make sure you put it on right, didn't upset something else, or don't have an early belt failure (dud).

I replaced my belts when cracks started appearing perpendicular to the ones shown in the pictures, after about 120,000 miles of driving. Yes, I'm that cheap.
