i think as part of the student driver course you should have to pass a section on snow driving, maybe have a skid car on a wet surface like police officers have to train on. people really need to figure it out! at 4:19 is pretty awesome though...

Why? AWD, 4WD, ABS, ESC, Traction Control and all the other electronic nannies that make drivers think they can drive like it's clear, dry and 75 degrees out because the car will compensate for their stupidity.

That is freaking pathetic, but it's true that most people simply have no idea how to react when road surfaces are like that. 5 years of driving in Michigan with a FWD car have taught me very well, not a single wreck or ending up in the ditch once and I've driven in some crazy weather.

He could spend his time warning others instead of video taping the wrecks... Everyone having a problem going down that hill indicates to me there was a little bit more going on than most believe.

I can drive in the snow, so you can't say no one can. Ice though, thats a bit more sketchy grin2 I think everyone every year come first snow fall should go find a nice open safe place and practice maneuvering and stopping in the snow. Its tons of fun and quickly removes that layer of rust your skills have built up over the warmer months. last weekend (first snow fall...sadly) me and a friend went out playing in the snow and it was amazing what i could do by the end of the night compared to the start.

that is the issue here, too much speed and to hard on the brakes, the ones who didn't wreck were going slow and being gentle with the peddles. basic stuff really.

What's pathetic is all the expert snow drivers here doling out comments in "armchair quarterback" fashion. Come on, people. 3,000 pound cars don't bounce around like hockey pucks on snow. This has to be ice.

Agreed. That looked like glare ice with a topper of wet snow. Likely rained all day, temp dropped quickly, thin layer of ice developed, and was topped by a wet snow. Many of the cars look to be going less than 10-15 MPH and just slide down the road crown right into the curb. Even the ones being ginger with the pedals start to dive toward the curb. That's not a road I want to be on or anywhere near.

I get to work everyday with a simple FWD car, cant say the same for those with 4wd and awd rides. One even had an off road experience in the median strip this winter.Thats AWD surefootedness for you!

you act like fwd is better than awd. of course retarded drivers or bad tires.. nothing helps. I've driven rwd fwd awd 4wd.. with the right tires and driving they are all adequate but awd is the best. not saying awd can prop up stupidity though.

If you're on wet ice, there is only so much you can do unless you have studded tires.

When it turns into chest thumping about how everybody else is a horrible driver when it snows and I can go anywhere witha FWD car when the 4WDs are in the ditch, it's always fun to bring up the concept of illusory superiority and the Dunning-Kruger Effect. In 1981, Ola Svensen surveyed a number of drivers, asking them to rate their own driving ability compared to the driving ability of others. In the United States, 93% of the drivers rated themselves as above average for skill and 88% ranked themselves as above average in safety. The Dunning-Kruger Effect explains this as a cognitive bias that causes people to overestimate their own abilities and underestimate their deficiencies when comparing themselves to others. In other words, everybody thinks they're an awesome driver in comparison to others, even if they're actually terrible at it.
