Looking at the current and previous PDS we find these viscosities @100deg

M1 EP HM 5W-30
Current: 10.0
Previous: 11.8

The current HM vis is now lower than the regular EP 5W-30. Does anyone have an explanation as to why the change was made? Until now, the regular EP has been lower by about a point.

HM oils have generally been on the heavier side, per grade, for higher milage engines. I wonder what MaxLife is these days. I don't think a cSt or two makes much of a difference. HM oils are also generally formulated with slightly higher detergent levels and sometimes AW additives.

At one time M1 HM oils were ACEA A3 rated, having a HT/HS of 3.5.
