Who makes the oil?

Anyone with experience working inside an oil blending plant?

Do the big name brand oil companies blend their own oil, or do they farm the job out to small, generally unknown oil blenders?

Years ago a good friend worked in the Chevron's Richmond packaging plant and packaged Chevron lubes as well as the private label brands they produced at that time.

What's the current situation?

About the same, Ken.

Brands like Mach, Harvest King, Accel and a few others buy blending stock from the majors and blend their own.

Yes they are contracted by small companies you never eben heard off. Some are blended by themselves. But not one single companie does not contract out their blending.
Including this includes even large manufactuers go to small companies to blend oil.
