Hey all just wondering who changes there oil after running a fuel cleaner such as techron?

I was in the opinion that you would only really change the oil if your engine was fuel diluting the oil and or had bad rings etc

Any normal vehicle shouldn’t mix fuel with oil so the techron would never end up in the oil to damage anything ?

Back when I used to run fuel system cleaners in my cars I would time it just before an oil change just in case. Although I suppose it doesn’t really matter with Techron since that’s what is in Chevron gas anyway.

I stopped using any fuel system cleaners a few years ago though. With both of my current cars they have never seen any fuel or oil additives at all. I always use Top Tier gas in my Corvette and the Civic gets Top Tier 98% of the time (once in a while if I’m on a road trip I have filled up with non Top Tier)

To keep the entire fuel system clean, Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner is recommended for use every season (winter, fall, spring, summer) or right before an oil change with no more than two treatments between oil changes.

Per the website .

That's a convoluted statement. They're saying you can use their cleaner twice (but not more) in between oil changes and doing an oil change 'soon' isn't necessary. The key word there being "or".

It's less harmful than doing an OCI of fuel diluter engines, (example) the Honda 1.5.

Don't give it a 2nd thought. I've used Techron within 1k after an oil change, with no harm done. Usually my viscosity range is around 9 with used oil. I'm first and last owner of my vehicles (18 year average), so I stand to know the lack of ramifications pretty well. My engines get resold at junkyards 18 years later.

If it does anything inside your engine, it'll be more like aiding it in cleaning ability, versus harming it.

The warning is for people who kill their engines with additives. (Joe C. comes to mind)

Best case scenario is right before an oil change but using it a couple times in 7000 miles is nothing to worry about.

Their instructions also don't take into account some cars may be on a 3750 mile severe interval or 15000 mile extended interval.
and best taken with common sense.

Nope. I run E10 fuel all the time and occasionally E15. That’s all the fuel cleaning additive needed.

I ran a bottle of Techron in the Jeep I bought from CO and currently have E15 in the tank now. I did change the oil after the Techron, but that was only by chance.

I've been pondering this issue myself.

My Owner's Manual says to add Techron to the tank at scheduled oil changes. When I've added it in between oil changes, my oil turns several shades darker, smells like Techron, and oil consumption goes up noticeably. That concerns me.

Will likely start deploying Techron right before an oil change going forward, perhaps every other OCI, or perhaps even only when a driveability issue is noted.
