Which "Regluar" ATF is better?

All ATFs are good. I don't see any 'regular' ATF as better or worse than any other.

You don't need any additives with your ATF.

If anything, add additional cooling and filtration.

And, if you don't have a drain plug, when the pan comes off for the filter change, install a drain plug kit. Regular drains/refills will do much to extend the life of the transmission.

If you thicken the oil, chances are it will hold a gear even longer cold. I'm not familiar with the physical hydraulic programming on that trans, but it's not uncommon to for thicker oil to delay shifting some.

Changing the ATF at reasonable intervals and keeping the oil cool is more important than the brand of oil. Either the Quaker State or Pennzoil will serve you equally well.

Hey guys,

I am about to take my '90 Nissan 300ZX TwinTurbo to a local auto transmission shop to have it power flushed.

I recently imported the car form Japan and as such have no idea of prior maintanence (or lack thereof) on the car.

I want to get a flush done with regular transmission fluid, then add some Lucas or something to the transmission just to thicken the oil up a bit. Reason for the additive is that the transmission is holding gears far too long when cold, and the torque converter seems to be having trouble locking up.

All the places either use QuakerState ATF or Pennzoil ATF. What's the concensus on these ATFs?
