Any opinions about the best option for this car? I've read that the Dexcool formula would work, but how about the Universal formula?

Thanks

I've been using the Prestone Dexcool formula in a 1994 Toyota Pick-Up for the past two years without any problems. Some folks on this board say the Prestone uneversal formula is the same stuff only no license for DexCool and different dye color. To read the ingreedients on the bottle they are the same, don't know if concentrations of igreedients are the same. Anyway, the Dexcool formula was clear and clean after two years in my Toyota.

Thanks mooboy. I also heard that about the universal formula. I guess I could go either way, whichever is on sale.

Upon speaking with Prestone's Technical Services, I was told by their representatives that although the two (DexCool and Universal) both contain the same active ingredients, they are actually different formulations.

The DexCool product is a "licensed" product by GM for use in vehicles requiring DexCool. Their Universal product will work in DexCool applications as well.

However, the Universal product is designed to be compatible in other applications (i.e. Chryslers, etc) where their DexCool product may not be.

For the Toyota, I'd use the Universal product. You can purchase it at Walmart for < $9/gal everyday.

Run the Universal in several cars with no issues. Supertech universal is several bucks cheaper and seems to be just as good if you want to save some money.

That's weird,9 bucks a gallon at Wal-Mart? At Ace Hardware Jakarta, Indonesia, I can get Prestone Universal for 5 bucks a galloon, and it's imported from the U.S,they have the complete line of Prestone Products Super Flush,Super Clean,Radiator Additive,Stop Leaks, etc all in the new yellow bottles, brand spanking clean and legit! Isn't that weird that I could get an imported American product cheaper than from a whole sale at the country of origin and from Wal-Mart no less.

5 bucks a gallon,no sales tax and additional 5% off for Ace Members.
