I investigated a klunk in the front of my 2009 Suburban and found the CV axle boot had failed and released all of the grease. Truck has 225,000 miles on it so I'm going to replace the CV axles in the front and the wheel bearings. There are literally hundreds of these available from all different sources and I'm sure they all come out of the same Chinese factory.
Should I just bite the bullet and go with AC Delco? Are ANY of the aftermarket ones any good?

On Rt. 17 S in Carlstadt, NJ is a shaft shop.
There's gotta be one on Long Island.
And if there's not, consider the NJ shop as it's 1 mile from MetLife Stadium.

I may have just settled this. I asked my brother if he has done this and what did he use, as he and my dad both have the same generation Tahoes. He said he gets a discount on AC Delco parts. He's going to get back to me with prices.

Where's the "place on the island that does that", aka the shaft shop you would've used had your brother not had a source.

I've familiarity with only a few locations on Long Island but still have an attachment to the place as I was born there.
Where were you born? I was born at South Nassau and grew up in Freeport. I live in Suffolk now.

Are you familiar with Colvin? That's where Nassau Driveshaft is. I used to have a million hooks for goods and services but now I work in Manhattan so I don't see everyone I used to see when I was wrenching on gensets with my family.

Colvin in Merrick and Mars in Bayshore are my two favorite auto parts stores.
Mars feels like you went back in time when you go in there.

Why are you replacing perfectly good wheel bearings?
I assume following the 'you're already most of the way there' mantra, like doing the RMS while replacing a clutch even if it isn't leaking.

I would probably do the same on my car, given it's pushing 150k. They're probably about due, sooner rather than later. Decision would be based on mileage, for me.

look up Kryptonite for wheel hubs. duramax store may even carry CV shafts for the half tons aswell.

You can still get the OE axles for $250 on Rock Auto. That is a good price for OE new CV axles on a big truck.

If that's still too much, there's the GSP XD axles (listed in the brown section) for $92 each. The XD axles use thermoplastic boots.
