I am a M1 user, what wght. oil 5w20 or ow30 is better for cold weather use in my 2003 ford f-150 5.4 ????

the 5w20 is thinner at all temps, and will therefore flow better (better being relative) in cold temps. If your manual calls for a 20 weight and you want the best cold weather performance, then use the 20 weight.

The 5w-20 will work fine for your winters. Now our brothers in Canada might like the 0w-30 better.

I believe the engine is spec'd for 5W-20 so stay with a 20 weight. If you want to run a 0W during the dead of winter run 0W-20.

Like you I live in Illinois and I use M1 50-30 EP in my 07 Focus, And either M1 5-30 or 10-30 in my Merc. Grand Marq. Both work well.
