Which one of these tires would you buy?

Yokohama ENVigor, you can't go wrong with that. I've had a chance to run mine twice now in ice/snow, the tires have about 4000 miles on them. Bottom line, they are awesome in snowy conditions.

Are you keeping these tires on all year long in Minnesota?

I would recommend the Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

There is another thread in this section you may want to check out(dont know how to link, sorry)on the Conti DWS member D189379 who resides in Canada is having very poor results with this tire in the snow and ice and dosn't recommmend these for winter tires.

Well maybe I'll just get the AVID ENVigor's. I showed the almighty one (my 70 yr old father) the P6, 520, g-Force, and DWS. He thought I should get the DWS. I'm not so sure now though. I didn't get to show him the ENVigor's. I was originally thinking Yoko anyway. I have heard a lot of bad things about those Pirelli's.

Yes, the key word..."Those Pirelli's(P6)". Try the P4's if they come in your size(IDK)in the "H" rating. They're a better tire than the P6's for certain things. But, there are probably better tires for your particular vehicle and driving style/climate(MN). The P4's can thump a bit after sitting in the cold until they roll for a bit down the road and then they're OK. I use'em on my Altima strictly for winter and I love'em but, I don't think we get as cold here in NY as you do in MN. We may get more snowfall though! I have heard this from the National Weahter Service and those whom I know that live in Twin Cities. But, I really don't know from experience.

A coworker just got a set of Envigors for his '02 Passat and he absolutely loves them. Quiet and extremely good grip in the rain (no snow yet in NYC). I ordered a set for my Saturn that should arrive tomorrow and I'm looking forward to having them installed.

Best,

I've had the Envigors on my SC2 for a few days now. I'm extremely happy with them. The car handles like it's on rails now and they're very quiet.

As new model tires are introduced to the market, the new tire designs have "eclipsed" the previously high rated tires and leap frogged themselves into the top spots in the ratings according to CR Mag. I have also seen the newer tires leap frog into the higher ratings on tire web sites as well, which have owners reviewing the tires.

A high scoring tire by the lab, magazine or organization that tests tires and also has good to great owners reviews is what I want on my vehicles.

NTB had a deal with TireRack where you talk to your local NTB first and have TireRack ship the tires to the NTB store. If you do that NTB will mount and balance your tires at a discount, and also give you a discount on disposal of the old tires. Check with your local NTB to see if this deal is still in effect for December.

Read the Tire Rack review of the DWS. It blows away other All-Season tires in ice and snow. See

http://blog.tirerack.com/blog/performanc...eme-contact-dws

If for some reason, you don't want to buy the DWS, check out the Hankook Optimo H727. It finished second in Consumer Reports All-Season tire test to the Michelin HydroEdge but significantly outperformed the HydroEdge in ice and snow. I just bought H727s for my Mazda MPV because it has a better tread wear rating than the DWS and I live in Houston where ice and snow performance is not paramount.

Who would recommend/use those anyway for winter tires in Canada? They're high performance ALL SEASON tires, I thought. No AS tire can be recommended as specialized winter/snow tires anyway, IMO...it's a mistake to expect winter/snow performance from what's clearly made as an A/S tire.

I've read way too many mixed reviews (here, Tire Rack, other forums) about the Conti DWS. That's why I've decided to get the ENVigor's, when I actually have the money.

I agree, but each to his or her own.

I thought I would update this thread. I ended up getting different tires. I wanted the AVID ENVigor, but it didn't work out. I decided to get Hankook Optimo H727. They do no make them in 205/50-16, so I got 205/55-16 instead. So far I really like them a lot. They are a lot better in the snow than the Falken Ziex ZE-912 I had before. Does anyone else have H727's?

YES! 4 Hankook Optimo H727 in the same size(205-55-16) for my daughters Mazda3 and she drives in Buffalo & Niagera Falls. She hasn't complained yet!

I have also introduced these H727's to a friend of mine(04 Camry 4cyl) who has an hour drive each way for work/home. He's loving them thus far. So much in fact that he has introduced his so to them for his CR-V

One more thought to all. Although it's too hard to tell if the H727 tires have any or non at all MPG benefits as the weather has changed dramaticly for the worst but, please post if anyone here has noticed any MPG differences up/down between these H727's and the tires you were using previously. My daughter did notice a slight drop in MPG when I put them on in Ocotber while the outside temps were still decent. She was running Dunlop Signature's of the same size.

-T-imely threads...

I spent over an hour comparing tires last night. Decided on the Hankooks H7272's since the Yokohama's were out of stock in my size for the Volvo.

$328 including shipping to Michigan. I should have these tires for several years for sure.

If it's highway mpg you want, shoulda got the GY Comfort Tread Tourings. No extra charge for the moderate tire noise.
