I am buying a 2005 Saab 9-5 Aero with the 2.3L 250hp turbo engine that requires using synthetic oil that meets GM-LL-025 spec. From what I am finding out is that only Mobil 1 0W-40 meets that spec. I have in stock PP and Quaker State Horsepower 5w-20. Would that be OK to use?

I have a saab as well. I would highly recomend not using a 20 wt with a turbo charge engine. I know my stock turbo boosts to 15 psi and would not trust a 20 wt in there.
Refresh my memory, does the 05 aero require a 40 wt or a 30wt ? Me personally I would only be running a 40wt
In the US. I think you are limited to what oils are available.
Motul, Total, Mobil, Esso, Lubromoly, and Redline would be the only ones that come to mind to meet there spec.

Just to point out, Redline "technically" isn't on the approved list, but its a great oil for turbo engines.
Mobil 0w40 is showing to have great UOA with many engines and is readily available.
Lubromoly makes a 0w40, as well as Redline (I currently am running Red Line 0w40), Motul and Total both have a 0w40.
You cant really go wrong with any of those choices. If you are not on warranty you could go with a 5w40 which might expand your choices a little more.

Turbo engines get really hot and are very hard on oil. A 20wt has the possibility of shearing and not being able to handle the temp stresses that a turbo provides.
Secondly, bearing clearances. These engines have high torque in the low RPM range. I know my engine has peak torque at 2200rpm. With torque this low down, you want a thicker weight oil to hold the bearing clearness when under load/boost. Like I said earlier , I would run anything but a 40wt or higher in a turbo engine, and especially in a Saab turbo engine. There is a reason that the manufacturer recomends a 40 wt oil. Stick with what Saab says

I initially thought you were buying a 9-3, but I now see it is a 9-5; a BIG difference when it comes to engine oil!
The 9-5 engine, besides being turbo charged, and with a history of sludging oil, also has only a 4 litre sump and a small oil cooler in the air stream! I would NOT use the 0w40 weight of Mobil 1.
Sitck with 5W/40 weights only. Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck and SUV is a great oil, Shell Rotella-T synthetic in 5W/40 weight is good. Pennzoil Platinum 5W/40 is also very good - if you can find it. I have used a lot of Mobil 1 in my Saab 9-5 but am currently running Total Quartz Energy 5W/40 for the past year or so.
Note the trend in oil weights?
I am a firm believer in 5,000 miles oil changes for this engine, and I also use the larger oil filters (Mobil 1 #M1-209, Purolator #L20195 / #PL20195, or equivalent)
BTW - I have 243,000 miles on my 9-5 with no engine problems.
