Which oil in an old 2010 peugeot 207 VTi sport that burns like a litre of oil every 300 miles and smokes a bit?😆

Hi. Thanks for reading.

Apparantly 5w30 ACEA C2 is the one I should use. but I heard when an old engine burns oil sometimes it's better to give it thicker oil ?
could I go for 5w40 ACEA C3? or even just 5w30 ACEA C3?

Thank you!
Conor

Car has passed MOT just last week and has no other issues I'm aware off I think it has loose pistons and oil gets into combustion chamber

I've found two 'mannol' oil deals on amazon. 17.77 for 5 litres of 5W-30 ACEA C3
or
26.99 for 5 litres of 5W-40 ACEA C3

This is my go-to oil for most things these days. It really is a ‘one size fits all’.

I however, would avoid Mannol…

Yeah but 1 liter every 300 miles. I say try at least 10L ;)

the cheapest oil you can find in a high viscosity, 10/15/20w40/50/60

Do they have high mileage oil over there?

If Mannol is the cheap oil, nothing wrong with using that. This Carlube 10w60 might be worth considering.

I checked British Amazon, and they seem to carry oil additives, including Liqui-Moly and Lucas. They even have STP. For only 3 pounds, it's worth trying. There's also Wynn's Super Charge oil treatment.

I'm on the mobile version of BITOG, I don't see anyone's signature (if you list the car there)

How many miles/how old? Are these engines known for burning oil?

Cheers! I think im going to buy some Lucas heavy duty oil stabiliser

thanks everyone. appreciate the advice

The engine is 2010 and it has about 83k miles. and these 'prince' engines are known for burning oil !
Have you considered doing a piston soak and flush, or both? Those seem to be popular remedies to oil consumption. Your results may vary, but you could look into if you haven't already.

Should be safe to do on a car with less than 100k. I did two flushes 5000 miles apart with BG EPR, haven't had problems so far, and my 2019 Sportage is at 112k miles, FWIW.

It's a bit anecdotal I know, but I hope it's helpful.

Thanks guys.
I'm gonna look into the piston soak and maybe give it a go. is it something I could do myself?? I've replaced a VVT solenoid before myself

Amazon UK has Berryman B12 Chemtool :)

You can do the soak yourself. People on here have done it, and there are some Youtube videos on it too. Search for "piston soak B12"
