which oil & Filter?

I have two vehicles in question.
First the newer one, a 2004 Suburban, 5.3L V8, with about 15,000 miles on it. Thinking of switching to Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter. Oil has been changed at dealer regularly and they said they use Exxon oil which I am guessing is a Mobil product?
Any suggestions?

I also have a 1996, 4Runner, SR5, V6, 4X4 with 115,000 miles that I have changed the oil in regularly and thinking of switching. The dealer has been putting in Castrol 10w30 and last time I went in they suggested Castrols high milage oil for this truck. Should I use it or just stick with what the dealer has been putting in or also switch to Mobil 1?

My pick would be Mobil 1 10w30 if money is not a problem or if your looking to save some bucks Pennzoil 10w30 om the newer car you can also enroll in the Pennzoil 10yr/250000 mile warranty but you would have to change the oil every 4000 miles or 4 months, whichever comes first. If you go with Mobil 1 go with an OCI of 5000 miles. I make it standard practice to run an OEM filter on each vechicle. ac/delco on chev/gm, motorcraft on Ford, Toyota filter on Toyota etc.....

Castrol GTX 10w30 is a good oil and I would run it in both vehicles. I am thinking owners manual for the Suburban says 5w30 is recommended but 10w30 ok in your climate, right? I also like OEM filters and they are generally a bargain.

I have a 2004 4.8 and have had good UOA`s with Mobil 1.The L.S.1 motors seem to do better with a heavy 30 weight oil. I`m running a mix of 4 quarts 10/30 Mobil 1 and 2 quarts 15/50 Mobil 1 to get the viscosity up to a heavy 30. You can`t go wrong with Mobil 1 0w40 if you don`t feel like mixing.Don`t be afraid of going a little heavy as I had a great UOA report using straight 15/50 for 10.7K.

I use a Motorcraft on my Toyota Tercel. An FL-400S. Also would use it on my tundra if not under warranty.

I'd also recommend 10w30, especially in your area. The 5.3L Vortec runs smoothly on the heavier 30wt oils. A recent report posted on the UOA board, with Chevron Delo HDEO 10w30, produced excellent results for a heavier 30wt in a 5.3L motor.

If you decide to switch to Mobil 1 10w30, probably the best option is to do it as soon as possible before any dino based deposits build up in the engine. CCD deposits can contribute to cold start knocking noise.

I think for the burb the perfect choice would be GC,on the heavier side of 30 wt should be perfect for the generally warmer climate of Houston...

Sorry about the confusion...GC is Castrol Syntec 0w30,it must have red backround where 0w30 is on the front and on the back it must say "Made in Germany"..
