I have not been into Walmart in probably 2 years. Since they stopped selling ammo I no longer have a good reason to go in.

But today my wife needed something from there so I went.

Got her thing then went to the oil section. The filters were very picked over. I looked at ST, orange cans etc and all they had in ph16 and ph8a size was the endurance and I'm not paying that much for a filter.

So I looked for the fl1a that I can substitute for my filter.

$12 for an fl1a! Last time I bought one it was like $5.

Back to home Depot I went.

I noticed the price hike about a year ago at WM. I am glad I bought a few prior to that when they were around $4.27. Watch Rock Auto. I did get some earlier this year at a good price. Maybe no longer.

I still have a fair number of OG Ultra XG8As from my departed Cherokee-they could be my 2nd 401K at this rate! $3 in 2019 to $15 today for the FL1A, that's insane!

I often wondered over the years, why are they so cheap? I guess Purolator or other makers raised the prices to MC, or the store decided to get more profit, or both.

The base end bypass valve is pretty much unique to Motorcraft filters now with Purolator. I would imagine there is a higher setup cost also for Purolator/MH to run them on a manufacture line.

In my observation of the 910S specifically, for a while now, pricing has more than doubled. Was slightly less than $4 WM everyday price. Now ~$8.50. And MC was doing away with the base end bypass on some applications. 910S used to be an excellent value choice for an OPE filter.
