When did Halloween Change?

The worst part are the kooks that try to return Halloween to its real meaning. Can't we leave the dead spirits dead and go back the fun time for kids it was 60 years ago?

If we ditch Halloween because it's a pagan festival, then you need to kiss goodbye yo Christmas and Easter as well.
Halloween is the old Celtic New Year/get ready for winter/ celebrate harvest/ get ready for winter/make nice with the otherworld, etc.
Like everything else, it's become entangled with the chasing of money.
When I as a kid, we could have egg fights with the local cops. Try that these days, you'll get shot.

I don't think I ever had a scary costume. My most memorable childhood costume was Hans, of Hans and Franz. My friend was taller, so he got to be Franz.

I don't need the holiday marketing machine to tell me when to have a fun family activity. we're raising our kids w/o observing any of the holidays and they are the better for it.

I've always been a proponent of teaching trades in high school. It's no different than Auto Tech IMO.

Why Halloween is better than sex:
10. You're guaranteed to get a little something in the sack.
9. The uglier you are, the easier it is to get some.
8. If you get a stomach ache, it won't last 9 months
7. Less guilt the morning after.
6. It doesn't matter if they fantasize you're somebody else, because you are.
5. Forty years from now, you'll still enjoy candy.
4. If you don't get what you want, you can always go next door.
3. If you get tired, you can wait 10 minutes and go again.
2. You don't have to compliment the person who gives you some.

Halloween stopped being real scary when the Druids died out.

Yeah, it was certainly less scary than burning witches,torturing heretics, killing and/or enslaving entire populations. Things have gotten a lot better!
BTW , there's no actual evidence that Halloween had anything to do with Druids, or vice versa, it's not mentioned in any contemporary(meaning from the same time period)source pertaining to the Druids and their practices.

Last weekend, one of the old-time radio shows was Ozzie & Harriet , originally broadcast in late October 1948. (yup, 61 years ago!) Subject of their Halloween program? Ozzie was complaining that Halloween was ruined, just wasn't like it used to be!
