What's The Deal With Motorcraft Motor Oil?

About 3 weeks ago I purchased a case of Motorcraft 10W-30 at a local parts retailer. The 10W-30 bottles say Super Premium Motor Oil, whereas the 5W-30 and 5W-20 bottles said Synthetic Blend.

Now, at our nation's largest retailer, all weights of Motorcraft oil say Synthetic Blend.

What gives?

It's likely old stock you got. Motorcraft has been synthetic blend since the inception of SM/GF-4 in 10w-30 and the 5w-30/20 has been for several years now.

Now that I think about it, I saw Motorcraft 10w-30 at Autozone yesterday that said super premium on the bottle but it also said synthetic blend as well. Looked like brand new packaging. Are you sure it doesn't say it? Also, is it SM/GF-4 or SL/GF-3?

No where on here does it include the word "synthetic".

Also, it's GF-3/SL.

Considering my oil gets changed about every 200 to 250 miles, I think I'll use what I've got.

I hope, at minimum, he meant 2000 to every 2,500 miles for his OCI.

Yes... I've been told I am. And I'm O.K. with that.

Seems I only put about 50 to 100 miles per month on my '93 F150 Lightning, so I change my oil based on the 3 months, not the 3000 miles.

What's so special about this particular '93 F150 Lighting?...

It's #8 of 5276 built that year and the very first one available to consumers... For all intents and purposes I have the very first F150 Lightning built. So I don't drive it much.

There's a gentlemen on the boards with two Ferraris, one an Enzo, that get 5w-20 of all grades, with around 5,000 mile intervals. I know you love your truck but every 3 months is such a waste and it's not gonna make your engine last longer. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, just stating the obvious. Can you please send me your used oil???

Try to drive the truck a minimum of 20 mi at a stretch at least once every two weeks to get everthing up to full operating temperature.

If the truck sits that much you need to switch it to a 10W-30 HDEO like Motorcraft Diesel or Shell Rotella T. This will help combat corrosion.

Then change the oil once a year.
