Hi all, I have just had a VOA done on a oil, and noticed that the TBN number is much different to what is listed on the spec sheet.

See link: http://tds-au.bp.com/bpglis/oztds3....e1e926c16f38064eca256512007c745f?OpenDocument

Product data sheet claims TBN of 10.5
VOA shows TBN of 7.9

Even the Vi index was lower by 8 units.

What's the go with these test sheets, don't they have to be even slightly close to what the product really is?

Do you guy's think that by dropping down to 7.9 from the impressive 10.5 there is much lost or much difference when used with a petrol engine?

Hi Pablo

Was sent to Australian laboratory services

See there link: www.e-monitor.com.au

TBN Test D2896

Can Lab's give major differences in results?

I'm just worried that it's not as a good oil I thought it was. TBN of 10.5 is really good I thought.

Labs can and do vary a lot, but I know nothing of this oil. D-2896 should detect all the detergent and dispersant base - but if the lab didn't take the time to go all the way to the end point then the results maybe a lower number than a "typical" data sheet.
