i have the notorious honda/acura bird chipping noise when your clutch is not pressed in. I lubed the clutch slave cylinder ball and transmission fork with Permatex Anti-Seize(silver one) about 3 months ago and the noise is back again(intermittently). What kind of lubricant can withstand high temps and LAST LONG??? Or what do you think is the most appropriate lube for this application? Fyi, its metal to metal contact.

Anti seize is totally wrong. It is not for moving part lubrication. Get that crud off of there and use a proper grease. I like Moly greases for this.

yeah i know.... what greases contain a lot of moly?

Schaeffers 238 is what I always use for clutch pivot points, it seems to hold up for a long time. But the noise you describe does sound like a throwout bearing... clutch pivot points only squeak when the pedal is in motion. If the clutch pedal is up and there is a harmonic noise, it is usually the T-O bearing getting sloppy. But, that can put a little harmonic force on the clutch springs and therefore the slave cylinder (you can feel it in the pedal even), so I believe a worn T-O could make the pivots squeak too.

it is 100% of the clutch slave cylinder. the engine idling makes the ball on the csc shake and rub gently on the fork to create a squeal. The noise disappears with the LIGHTEST pressure on the clutch pedal. these are often mis-diagnosed and people end up paying lots of money for a new clutch when all you have to do is lube an area. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-m5F0zEvyo skip to 14:50.

I think almost any #2 grease will be fine, Moly grease is labeled that way. Chevron has Moly Max and EP Moly grease #2, Stay Lube sells Moly grease in smal tubes as well as 14oz. Valvoloine and almost everybody does.

sorry if i'm reviving a dead thread. mazda slave cylinder repair calls for a moly grease where piston meets the clutch fork. how "do-or-die" is this? i have a tub of GM multipurpose grease lying around. most stores in my area have to special order moly grease, and only 1 local store had honda 60 paste for more than i was hoping to pay. in other words, could i use MP grease and get away with it for the time being? thanks

Honda 60 is probably not what Mazda was thinking of, it is for the splines on a shaft drive motorcycle. You should be able to find Valvoline MP Ford-Mercury-Lincoln grease at Napa, it is an inexpensive easy to find moly grease with maybe 2 or 3% moly. Mazda is probably looking for 4 or 5% moly. I suspect the 60 on Honda 60 means 60% moly, it is more of a paste. I've heard that BMW dealers use the Honda 60 on their drive shaft splines because the BMW stuff is no good, and that the Honda dealers just use cheap chassis grease because the Honda 60 is too expensive.
