I have car insurance with AIG that was bailed out by the government. The guy that rearended me said he has Allstate as a carrier and I found out that he does not have insurance with them.

AIG said they are going to fix my car under my uninsured motorist policy. They have the guys:

1) VIN
2) Tag Number
3) Address
4) Phone number
5) Date of Birth

They are running an MVA check and said they will go after whoever is insuring the vehicle. Since AIG was bailed out by the government and they obviously need all the money for those executive retreats and parties, will they:

1)Report Him To The MVA
2) Take Him To Court
3) Send Someone Over To His House

If anyone knows how these insurance companies work please let me know as they already have tried calling him.

They will lawyer up appropriately to extract the necessary pound of flesh.

The bellyupness of AIG really had nothing to do with the true insurance business. Especially auto insurance.

AIG will weigh their options and probably find it less expensive to just pay to fix your car and be done with it. If the person who hit you has no insurance, there was no police report or eye witness of the event, all he has to say is he never hit you. It would be more expensive and resource exhausting to get anything from this dude. What bites is, your premium rate will go up if you are over $1200/yr in claims or what ever the magic number is now.

As stated above, they will pay to fix your car (less your deductible). If they get a recovery from the at-fault driver, they will reimburse your deductible (never happen)

What deductible is on uninsured motorist coverage, they told me they are going after whoever the vehicle is insured under.

If they raise my rates I will eventually look elsewhere for insurance.

I looked up something with the MVA, and they have an Insurance Compliamce Division that I can file a complaint against the guy that hit me.

my wife had two accidents not her fault, our rates still went up 20% and when I shopped around because we had claims nobody wanted us.

Basically, it seems like if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time and it is not your fault you still get penalized.

I guess their philosophy is if you were "better" you'd have swerved out of the way, despite lacking "fault".

Something similar happened to someone I used to live next to. His insurance company paid him minus the deductible, then the company went after the other driver. It went on for years but eventually he got his money back. Ironically, he works for AIG.

Forgot to mention. His car was totaled and only a few years old, so it would have been a fairly big loss for the insurance company if they couldn't recover anything. If your total damage isn't significant, they might not bother with the courts.

Well, my car is going to be about $3000.00 too fix, plus the rental car cost. I have a $250.00 deductible on the uninsured motorist coverage.

I will have the rental for 2 weeks, so 14X $20.00 or so is $280.00
