What to do with old parts?

I'm talking the ones that normally considered Core return parts.

I used to be a go to mechanic for a few local groups around me. Simple mods specific to certain car platforms. And well I've stacked up some decent spare parts bin that i'm looking to shink down. A lot of the bulky items that i don't have space for nor a purpose.

I have about 6 honda front axles, 5 alternators, 3 full size car batteries, about 4 sets of calipers.

I've called a few scrap yards and part stores, most will say they will take them but no money. Maybe $5 a battery. I went as far as posted everything up in local car groups for free and no takers. Any options other than just trash them.

Get yourself a picnic table, a chair, something. Put it in your front lawn. List the stuff on FB marketplace with instructions to "put the money in the jar." Leave the mess unattended.

Maybe you'll get some money.

You probably won't get any haggling-- you'll be absent from the transaction.

Maybe someone will make the scrap run for you, by stealing all your stuff.

Anyway, enjoy the newfound storage space.

I take mine to the dump and recycle them unless I broke it. It then goes on my wall of shame.
Thats the problem and why so many landfills are closing early. Landfills will recycle a little but most don't bother. Most junkyards or metal scrap places pay something. Advance auto parts pays $10 a battery. Some citys have drop off places for people that live there, you just have show a city bill.

Around here there is no problem getting rid of anything metal . Set it out by the street and somebody will pick it up within a day or two .
Same here. We also have a day where the sanitation dept will pick up bulk items placed by the road. I put an old mattress out one day, and a scrapper cut it open to get the metal springs.

They have separate bin and take it to Navy City metals, same place I would take it for pennies on the dollars so it saves me the hassle and gas. This technically isn't a dump. It is a transfer station. I just call it the dump.

With the price of metal, you just never know when you will need a chunk, when I toss something the next day or week, I have a use for it.

If they are decent, ID them with white paint pen and give 'em to a small garage or junk/dismantling yard in a less fancy nabe.
Make local friends
Good idea. I would bring in homemade bbq ribs and sides to a locally owned liquor store. I'd get discounts on bourbon and he'd special order stuff i wanted.
