Going to do a AT pan off drain and fill on a 150,000 Km/94,000 Mi 2008 Corolla.
What is a good solvent to quickly clean off the varnish in the pan?
Thanks in advance.
Brake Cleaner......any kind, and Cheap!
That's what I used on the 2006 Corolla.
+1 I have never seen a heavily varnished pan but brake cleaner should break it down just fine. If not I would use mineral spirits or acetone then blast it with brake cleaner
I've never seen a transmission pan develop varnish on the inside.
Me neither.
Sludge, yes.
Never Varnish.
I've always just used the power washer (yep, plain water) then let air dry. I worked at a transmission shop in the late 80's - just a power washer was used for all cleaning jobs.
Varsol, Stoddard Solvent or plain old mineral spirits. Kerosene will work just as well. If you have anything more than residual ATF deposits, you have a problem or lack of ATF drain/refill (which is all you need).
It's a new to me 2008 Corolla. I'm going to give it the Bitog Blitz. Change engine oil & filter, AT oil & filter, coolant change and brake fluid flush.
It's one lucky puppy.
