Just purchased a 2012 Acura TL SH AWD tech package. Six speed auto trans. Comes with 3.7L engine. I plan on changing the FF at MM 15% per factory recommendation. I would like to stick with one oil. What would you recommend.

Details:
12-15K / year
50% highway
usually 8-10 miles (one way) per trip
New England weather CT

I am thinking Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20, NAPA Platinum filter, change at MM 0%

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom. I tried to look up UOA for Acura V6 but found nothing.

I would change the oil twice a year for one year before going into a 1 year OCI. Why? these honda engines take a while to break in, so you probably want to get rid of leftover wear metals sooner by doing more frequent oil changes. My tsx took about 20-30k before i saw its MPG potential and based on lots of UOA, wear metals settle to universal averages after 15-30k

Thats what i would do....your oil combo looks like a winner.

I run my CR-V on synthetic right down to "0" on the MM which is not calibrated for synthetic (2009 CR-V). I got accused of not "respecting my engine" by folks who can't stand to see the MM go below 15%.

I still sleep well and would think you could do the same on your plan described in your original post.

Congrats...NICE car!

I would use PU and the Napa filter for OLM 0% OCI's. I really think it is a better oil with a higher TBN. PP is great but if you are going to stick with an oil PU is a great choice. So is M1 EP.

I would change the oil every 2k 3 times to flush with a good conventional like PYB, Mobil 5k, basically anything on sale that month at the auto store. Then go into your routine. Do a UOA at the end of your first full run to see how the engine is doing. I think that is a plan that would work like a charm.

If you want to change FF early then you should use conventional oil with high moly or use a can of Lubro-Moly MoS2. Do 2-3 shorter OCI's about 3-5k miles with mid-grade oil filter such as Purolator Pure 1, then use synthetic oil of your choice and filter for full MM after that.

Owner's manual calls for 5w-20. Since the engine is completely clean, this is the reason I was thinking about Penn Plat over Penn Ultra. Not trying to go beyond the MM.
