What oil to recommend?

McDo, it really depends on if you want to buy locally or mail order. If locally, what Xw40 oils are available in your area?

I'm currently using a PP 5w30 that I know its not a VW certified oil. Would it hurt my engine? Most of the Time I drive short distances. Temp? around 37f in winter and around 90f in summer? SO what do you think? any recommendations? I would buy the oil online if its not available in my local area. Thank you in advance.

BTW is that Fram extended guard a good filter?

I'd have no problem with the PP 5w30 with short OCIs. I'm still waiting for the reason why VW all of the sudden became critical on what oil it needs to use as my 1986 Jetta went 394,000 miles on anything I put into it. Mostly 10w30 and 5w30 towards the end of its life. All conventional oils and 5-6k OCIs.

PP 5w30 is a great oil and with your short trips, I'd keep the OCI low just to get the [censored] out of the sump.

Another good oil for VW engines is the 15w40 Rotella (sp) I know of a few co-workers here who run it in their later model VW with excellent results. I don't think that oil is rated for VW either. But you are out of warranty as they are.

Your use dictates that frequent oil changes are done.

Take care, bill

Thou my problem with PP 5w30 is that its not a VW 502.00 or 505.00 certified oil? would that really matter for a 2.0L. Coz i am thinking of using That Castrol 5W-40 which is available in my local dealer but cost a lot more.

Again, I'm still waiting for the reasons why VW went from using any oil and lasting to their 502-505 oil spec...

Your use REQUIRES shorter oil changes. I'd use something cheaper and CHANGE the oil more often.

Are you seeing any condensation/slim say under the oil cap? witch would indicate moisture and the oil not getting hot enough.

i would probably keep it short like said above, how short are you commutes??

Like average 10miles a day. Before I switched to PP. I notice some build up under the oil cap. I dont know what is it? When I cleaned it, its like a sandy substance. after using PP. It got better. looks cleaner but there are still some build up in the oil cap. what do you think?

I checked the Oil cap just now, I saw moisture/condensation and would you say slim? What do I do about it? How do I fix that? Not getting enough heat should I warm up first my car? before using it?

Just drive the car a few good trips someplace, burn the water condensation out. get the oil nice and hot.

clean oil off the cap and make sure PCV is clean and open. and keep an on on things.
