I just bought a Mazdaspeed 6 with 73K on it. I am changing all the gearbox oils to Redline tomorrow (MT90 trans and 75-90 in the transfer case and rear diff), and I need to change the engine oil too. I was thinking of using either the German Castrol or Mobil 1 synthetic 0-30 in the motor. any suggestions? I hear there are issues with excessive amounts of fuel contamination after the oil has been in there for a couple thousand miles. I drive 35 miles each way to work, and I get about 75% of it in traffic. On weekends I drive 25 miles to see my girlfriend in Los Angeles and drive around on LA streets during the day. Southern California has pretty mild weather as I am sure you know. I am going to use the Factory oil filter and I am looking to get 5K between oil changes so i am not doing a change once a month. The car is stock except for a AEM cold air. What does everyone think?

Would Redline 0-30 work well< How does it compare to GC, amsoil and Rotella when it comes to holding up against fuel dilution? Where do you find Rotella? I don't know if I have noticed Shell oils at auto parts stores. But then I have never looked.

Yes RL 0W-30 which has a 183 VI and is still impervious to shear I would prefer to GC and Amsoil as they have nothing comparable.
Rotella T6 5W-40 is way OTC heavy and I wouldn't use it.

RogerHewson,

I don't know anything about GC or Redline products but since you mentioned considering using Mobil 1 then that's my suggestion to use. I've always been happy using M1 since I was able to afford it when it first appeared on the market.

Using M1 for your typical driving habits and the 5K OCI is perfect.

I drove my Mazdaspeed3 for 60k trouble free miles using PP 5w-30 and Mazda filters. The engine was spotless inside.

Now about that transmission: you're going to want to use Motorcraft manual trans fluid XT-M5-QS. Just google it and you'll know. It turned my recalcitrant shifting Speed3 into slickest shifting car I've ever owned! I tried the MT90 and it was terrible in this trans. MTL wasn't any better.
Finally, the XT-M5-QS turned my car into a highway porn star!

Just trying to save you all the trouble I went thru.....

I agree re the Ford XT-M5-QS. As for engine oil, I have 90K on my 2007 MS3 and I've rum M1 5W-30 since the first oil change. Up to 75K I ran a 5k OCI but I have since bumped the OCI up to 7.5k. UOAs are good, and while I don't abuse the car it does get driven pretty hard.
