Just bought a house built in 2005. I'm not sure what kind of a thermostat this is. Could someone please explain?

ZWave is a wireless mesh radio protocol used in automation, similar to Zigbee. You would need some kind of zwave controller on your network to use it. Looks like you could get info at alarms.com

Wiring looks to control both heat and cooling or augment same? I`d yank it and get a simpler tstat. Living in a cod climate dictates simple trouble free HVAC controls.
