I made Singapore Slings for a while, but the proper ingredients are just so darn hard to acquire around here, particularly the Benedictine, and the Cherry Heering. So once supplies ran out.....
When I was in the Marine Corps about 1967 my unit was sent to Japan on a WWII LST 1040 USS Park County.
We stopped in Guam for 5 days.
At the base club I was introduced to a Singapore Sling.
I puked red for about an hour after drinking too much.
But at 20 years old it was just a minor inconvenience.
Today I like Evan Williams or Jim Beam black bourbon on the rocks with some coke.
That big green image brings it home .... lol
Tanq and tonic on those summer days! Very smooth, refreshingly crisp.
Fall and heavy weather, I'm a beer a day sorta guy.
For those friends who do not like the taste of alcohol, I usually make vodka cranberry:
- fill half a glass/tumbler with ice
- 6 oz cranberry juice
- 2 oz vodka
- splash of OJ
- a bit of squeezed lime
Vodka on its own doesn't have any taste, and cranberry juice masks the alcohol very well. If I make it for myself, I reduce the amount of juice so that I can at least feel the alcohol.
