What is your current "Oil Change Interval" (oci)and what brand, weight are you using? Include your reasons for your current prescription and the vehicle.

List the filter too!

Here is mine:

-2003 Toyota Tacoma 2.7l -gets 5w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic. Its changed every 6 months or 7500 miles. Using Wix filter. I do the changes.

-1995 Toyota 4-Runner 3.0l-gets 10w30 Mobil 1 and 150ml of 15w50. Its changed every 6 months regardless of mileage. Using Toyota filters. I do the changes.

Reasons for my prescription. Both vehicles are in the severe service catagory so synthetics are used. I will keep these vehicle until they die.

2003 Toyota Matrix - Has gotten M1 5w30 every 5k miles. Stretching to 7.5k now. The car is driven pretty hard and acumulates about 7k miles every 3 months. I use Toyota filters and do the changes myself.

1999 VW Golf TDI. It is fed Mobil Delvac-1 with a 5W-40 viscosity with a 10,000 mile drain interval. The filters are OEM Mann-Hummel or Mahle Knecht. I use this viscosity and product because the viscosity is specifically called out for by Volkswagen and this oil is incredible. I don't really need a heavy-duty rated diesel oil for my car but I am very impressed with how the Delvac-1 has kept the nasty sooty diesel oil from staining my beautiful aluminum cylinder head and valve cover.

1999 BMW 323i. This car gets 6 month drain intervals because it's useage is rather low. At the moment I am using Schaeffer's synthetic blend 10W-30 and Mann-Hummel filter. The car starts smoother with this oil than it has with any other that I've tried.

I have sampled many different oils but based on visual observations I am going to continue using the Delvac-1 in my diesel and most likely going to start using Lubrication Engineers 8130 10W-30 diesel rated oil in my gas engines. I've seen enough engine disassemblies to convince me that the LE is a good choice. I'd use it in my diesel too if it were thicker.

'98 4.0 Jeep Cherokee Amsoil ASL 5W30 OCI every year or 10,000 miles. First run with the Amsoil.

'65 Chevy C20 pickup Rotella T 15W40 OCI every 6 months.

'97 Suzuki TL1000S Rotella T 5W40 OCI every 3 or 4 months or 3000 miles or when the transmission gets chunky.

'97 Suzuki Bandit same as the TLS

I use the following weights because that's what's recommended and it's cold up here.

2002 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8L - Pennzoil 5W30 Synthetic. Change between 5,000-6,000 miles. 95% highway miles. Son drives to college.

2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L - Pennzoil 5W20 Synthetic. Change at 6,000 miles. 95% highway miles. My company car.

2004 Subaru Forester 2.5L - Pennzoil 5W30 Synthetic. Change at 3,750 miles as recommended. 99% city driving. Longest trip, 3 miles, one way. Wife's car.

Forgot to list filters etc. The Nissan and Ford get Pennzoil filters installed at the Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change up the street from my home, and the Subaru gets Subaru oil filter installed at the local Subaru dealer.

98 ford contour amsoil 5-30 oil and amsoil filter. oil changed one time every year whether it needs it or not. 98 ford f150 amsoil 5-30 oil and amsoil bypass filters. 18000 miles on oil and still going

99 Jeep TJ 4.0 10k interval so far.

Delvac 1

NAPA Gold 1794 (dual)

02 Jeep TJ 2.5 - around 6 month interval (no UOA yet)
Penzoil filters
Delvac 1

92 Caravan 3.0 Mitsu (oil drinker of variable consumption depending on oil fatigue)
Larger Ford/mopar filter (WIX)
Any cheap 5w-30 (likes Formula Shell)

This vehicle, although it has a does give decent service @ 168k ..is a rolling risk factor

91 Taurus 3.0 5w-30 - I haven't established OCI yet...just whenever the daughter brings it home from college.

Any decent 5w-30. This is a beater for my daughter.

Nice to see some extended intervals!

Yes, it looks like some are finally coming out of the closet. I was convinced that 3-5k was the limit for just about everyone here except the Amsoil and Motor Guard/Gulf Coast sponsors.

Here's the list,

2002 Excursion M1 5-30 6000 CI Bosch filter. Tried M1 and pure1 filters not enough flow on start clacky valvetrain noise Much improved with the Bosch.

2000 Taurus M1 5-30 Bosch 4-5000 CI was wifes car now sons

2004 Taurus with only 600 miles need to figure out what is best for the new beast.

Both 2000 & 2002 have had ARX treatments and don't burn a drop between changes.

1994 Infinti Q45t.

3000 miles in winter 4000 miles in summer.
Currently use GC.

I currently use the "older style" OEM filter 60U00 which is extremely good, used to be reserved for only Infinitis or the higehr performance Nissans (300ZX TT) the new filter 55Y00 is a catch-all filter for all Nissan/Infiniti's it can fit to.

after my stash of old style Infiniti filters runs out, I will have to decide what to use.
been looking for a subsitute for 60U00 for a year now.

I am not willing to go back to Mobil1 filter for 13 USD espcially with my short OCI's.

I used to use whatever was on sale or the cheapest....Untill I found this site.

My 02'TJ 4.0 currantly has Havoline 10w-30 and a Proline Ford size filter on it. Right now it has 3300 miles on the oil and filter which is the longest I have ever let any car go.
pat.gif
My daily commute is 6 miles each way.

My 73"International pickup has QS 20w-50 in it. This poor truck has main bearing knocks and leaks. It also drags my atv's down miles and miles of dirt roads, usually I'm somewhere in the middle of the pack....Eating all the dust. It's never gone over 1500 miles between changes. It calls for the large Ford filter, I run the one for my jeep on it because it's smaller, fils up faster when started and hopefully the bearings will last longer with the smaller filter.

My mom's Sportage gets the Havoline 10w-30 and I change it every 2500.

Am I too anal about my OCI's?

1998 Toyota Tacoma V-6. Change oil twice yearly regardless of mileage as vehicle not driven regularly. Has only 50K kms after 6 years. Use Castrol syntec 0/30 now as the Delvac 5/40 didn't pump to my liking in cold weather starts....too heavy for this application it seems. Using Wix filters due to silicone ADBV as filter is oriented upside down.

2001 Corolla. Changed every 8K kms. Using the 0/30 also now instead of Mobil 10/30. Better price and evidence suggests better oil. Definitely better sub zero starting. Wix filters also.

Restored 1970 Mach 1 Mustang. Occasional driver. High oil temp V8. Using Redline synth 10/40. Change yearly regardless of mileage. Have Mobil 1 and Wix filters on the shelf for it.

All maintenance done at home.

92 Mitsubishi mirage 1.5L 116k miles change dino oil around 3k miles or six months (before winter and start of spring) driven about 7-8k miles a year now. I've been using 5w-30 valvoline maxlife that I got free. Supertech filter. the winter oil will get changed within the month

96 Pontiac sunfire 2.2L 103k miles. change 10w-30 exxon superflo around 3k miles or six months. this is my girl's car. Havoline oil filter used

1984 GMC Jimmy 5.7L Amsoil S2K 0W30 1 year interval 6 month filter and top up. Everything else in vechicle is Amsoil and considered lubed for life.

2002 Camaro SS LS1 Schaeffer 10W-30 every 6 months or 3000 miles. Oversized Wix

2000 Jeep TJ 2.5L Schaeffer 10W-30 every 6 months or 7000 miles. Oversized Wix

1998 Chevy Monte Carlo Z34 3.8L Schaeffer 10W-30 every 6 months or 7000 miles. Oversized Supertech

1998 Jeep TJ 4.0L Schaeffer 10W-30 @ 15W-40 every 6 months or 7000 miles. Oversized Supertech

1995 Firebird Formula (350ci LT1)- every 10,000km (6200mi) with GC 0w-30 and K&N oil filter

2000 Honda Civic-every 8,000km (5000mi) with GC 0w-30 and K&N oil filter

I choose GC because it shows me excellent wear numbers, doesn't cost me too much money and is readily available. I also think the better cold flow of this oil helps keep the wear low too.

I choose K&N oil filters because they flow very well, and are built very strong too, very high quality. They are costly, but worth it to me.

I choose the intervals I run because in my wife's car she drives about 1000km per month, so every 8000km is about right, although I may go to 10 in the future but for now it already seems like too long to wait for her UOAs!

For my car, 10,000km is just a nice round number, but I may go to 15,000km in the future. I'm confident this oil can handle it.

1999 3.0 VQ Nissan Maxima. Just changed over to Amsoil ASL 5W30 at 98,XXX kms with Amsoil SDF20 oil filter. Not burning any oil since I checked it at 101,xxx kms. Working overseas and need to go further before OC. Hence, Amsoil for longer drains. Current drain is six months. I know family won't go over 10,000km in the six months. Hopefully move to one year drains in the near future. 90% stop and go driving.

1992 Toyota Camry with the 2.2L four. Changed over to Pennzoil 10W30 at 212,xxx kms with Bosch oil filter(OE size). Use to use QS 10W30 but switched to Pennzoil after visiting BITOG. Engine is quieter and peppier. Haven't checked oil since change last December. OCI is three months. Mileage is not a concern as sister doesn't drive more then 7,000km during the interval. Mostly 80% stop and go driving. Car burns about 300 ml between changes.

2002 subaru impreza 2.5rs with ~50,000 miles

7500~ miles with mobil1 5w-30.

uoa has not been impressive, with relatively high fe and al. running auto-rx treatment ongoing. then going to give m1 one more chance before switching oil and shortening interval.

Maybe the interval is too long for your application?
