I grew up next to Lake Erie in Ohio and had a 73' VW Beetle during my junior and senior years of high school in the 90's. I ran Castrol 30W year round.

Ran some mineral Quaker State 10w-40 in my old '91 Stanza in northern NJ back in the mid 90s. Fast forward 20 years, and I'm still running 10w-40, although it's synthetic this time. smile

+1, but ran it during Canadian winters in my 98 Sienna. Had no issues.

GTX 20W-50, Edge 10W-60 and Penrite 20W-60 But my Australian winters don't count, they are fairly warm. The thinnest oil I have ever used in summer is the oil I am using right now, M1 5W30, my very first ILSAC oil. I know !!! .... Just call me Tig2 (meant as a compliment)

Shell Helix 25W-70. didn't get below -8C (about 20F)...nothing blew up. Time to full oil pressure didn't change. On the J Car engine, you could see the cam oil holes, and it "flowed" just fine.

Mobil 1 10w40 HM in the 1970 Beetle right now, it's had it for 19 months or so. Had MaxLife 10w40 in my 96' Chevy pickup with a 350 But this is Phoenix, it gets to 30 occasionally.

20w50 in a $400 saturn in March with overnight lows in the teens. I got it on clearance and was using it as a flush oil as the previous stuff was tarry and nasty.
