What happens to used oil in other countries?

Most gasoline station and other car wash outlets (Philippines) they sprayed it on under chassis after a water pressure washer was performed. They used it as a overall lubricant in many factories and preservation of metals

I have been known by about everyone and they ask me if it is the expensive stuff or not. I refuse to lie. If they can't take it I just take my oil and business elsewhere.
They ask you how much your old dirty oil cost when you bought it?..... Then refuse to take it because it was too expensive? I'm looking real hard for any sense here, but I'm not seeing it.

It is all burned here in Maine where we have 6 months of winter.

I have my own used oil burner in my shop.

I know a lot of guys used to use it in their chainsaw as bar and chain oil.

In the UK, I take used engine oil to the local household waste and recycling centre.. It then get refined in new oil of different types.

When I read Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, what really dates it is the way Pirsig changes the oil many times on the trip and just dumps the oil on the ground wherever he happens to be. I presume that would be illegal in most developed countries now.
