I have an 02 Envoy with 67k miles or so. Ive been using Castrol Syntec Blend 5w30 and an AC-Delco oil Filter. But now I read on here that Ac-Delco is flaking out and nobody knows if its actually make by delphi anymore. I hear a lot of talk about wal-marts house brand "super-tech" oil filters. Whats up with this? Is a super-tech better than a current Ac-Delco oil filter?

The last AC 1177 I found had about half again as much filter area as the ST 3950 I use now. The only way to be sure about your number, now, is to chop one of each open. Even then, it is difficult to evaluate the quality of the media. I found the ST about as good as most aftermarket filters and cheap and convenient. No sense paying a premium for something no better, or worse.

The filter is not exactly the same as yours, but is very close. In my opinion the two AC's available are both better then the Supertech, but not a whole lot. The ACs have more area and are better made.

AC delco filter have been made by two companies for quite a while now, so it's nothing new. The OEM ones are mostly Delphi and the parts store ones are mainly Champion.
