Changed the plugs out on the Malibu today (2.0 LTG Turbo, Direct injected, 65,000 miles, uses no oil between 4000 to 5000 mile oil changes. Mobil 1 5W-30 and 91 octane or better every fill up) They look ok to me, but I have never pulled a plug and saw the orange/red color on the insulator like that. It wasn't rust. Car runs fine. 65,000 miles and has never given me any issues. Besides the transmission drain and fill this is the largest maintenance item I have had to complete on it. GM says to change them at 65,000.

Just some pictures of the process. Took 30 minutes and that was taking my time.

Plugs look good.....the orange color maybe from the brand of gas your burning.
But keep running 93 octane. Turbos love octane !!👍

That orange you are seeing is called corona stain (yes that is the actual name and always has been). It’s caused by the high voltage that travels through the plug and normally attracting the dirt and oil from around the boot of the wire. 🙂. It’s totally normal and doesn’t effect the performance of the plug.

Those plugs look healthy to me. The discoloration you see is normal. The first time I saw it around 15 years ago it concerned me. But since then it seems like every vehicle I’ve owned now does this. I guess the voltage is higher on new cars.

Plugs look nice, glad you followed the recommended replacement interval - most people don't even know lol. You got good service out of the old plugs so made good sense to replace with the same ones. Good job. You are right about that 2.0T. My mom has an ATS with that motor - runs strong.
