what coolant for 06 Cummins?

Since I do not own a Dodge Ram with the Cummins (assuming that is what you have), I don't know what is the approved coolant for that application of the Cummins. I am going to guess it is the pink Mopar long life coolant. If so, you can use the Mopar coolant or its generic equivalent, G-05 which is available as Xerex G-05 by Valvoline.

If you want to go by what Cummins recommends, then you have to buy the Fleetguard (owned by Cummins) coolant. Cummins does not approve other manufacturers' coolants.

We have a Cummins B engine in a Freightliner truck at work and I have been using G-05 in it. Another coolant I would use in a Cummins is the Detroit Diesel PowerCool Plus long life coolant. Of course Cummins does not specifically approve PowerCool Plus since it is not made by Fleetgaurd.

Any of the coolants that George mentions will work just fine. I'd choose one of those based on price and convenience... which for me would mean G05. But the Fleetguard and PowerCool coolants both work just as well.

I'm using the Texaco premixed (red) in my Expedition.

Yes. I bought it at the local International dealer, it's what they use in the trucks they service there.

I gotta disagree with that article.

The B-series is MUCH less prone to cavitation than engines with removable liners. But I worked for a Cummins dealership for several years, and did replace a few blocks due to cavitation. So, personally, I'd go for a coolant with SCA's to prevent cavitation. Any of the coolants listed thusfar in the discussion would do the trick (Detroit Powercool, G05, Fleetguard, Cat ELC).

That said, the article concludes by reccommending Chrysler's HOAT coolant (e.g. G05), which DOES protect against cavitation (even though the author is apparently unaware of this). So in the end we agree, even though we disagree.
