I just got my Honda Accord back from the shop along with a list of things that need to be changed like upper and lower ball joints, tie rod end on one side and new ceramic brake pads. Most of the parts in question were changed about 2 yrs ago and are now failing because I decided to cheap out on my brake and suspension parts instead of spending the extra premium for the good stuff. I'm planning on spending a bit more on parts that will hopefully last longer. I'm not sure which brand to get: Ball joints and outer tie rod - I'm in between either MOOG (USA?) or Sankei555 (Japan)? Nerver tried either brands, but I have heard good things about both. Brake Pads - I'm not sure what to get? Monroe Ceramic, Bendix ImportQuiet Ceramic, Wagner ThermoQuiet, Centric Posi-Quiet? I want a decent priced/quality ceramic pad. Thanks

With more and more parts going to China, it is getting worse and worse - OE is starting to be the only option unless you can find the actual manufacturer. For example, for MB, Lemforder is the only option really for German-made stuff. I like Moog, Bendix, etc. IMO country of origin is an important thing amongst brand-name parts, because they may not be as good when Chinese made.

Any parts that are made in USA, Japan, Western Europe, or South Korea. Any of them have to have a Lifetime Warranty.

Im not sure on brakes, but on susp parts, go Moog, and if they have a "problem solver" option on a particular part, go with that....often for the problem solvers, they will tell you how its different and why.

I'm sorry, I forgot Canada. Shame on me.

I can relate to that. I have been inquiring about parts at all the local part shops and they all offer me these brands I have never heard of before , but they all come from the same place. India or China mad

Wagner Thermoquiet brakes are fantastic , I highly recommend them. As far as Moog or Sankei go for whatever is cheaper , they are both high quality replacement parts.

Been dealing with Toys, Nissans and Hondas for quite some time, all I could say is that I'm a big believer of "555". Used that in my wifey's former vehicle (4Runner lower ball joints, etc.) and been extremely satisfied. As for brake pads, anything will do fine IMHO. Q.

Moog makes excellent suspension products. For a daily driver with a stock suspension Moog would be my 1st choice. Best brand I have used and sold for DD/stock use. For brakes I would actually say get some EBC Redstuff or Greenstuff pads. Excellent quality, low dust, decent price. They have excellent rotors available as well.

I once had a "555 Japan" brand outer tierod end that came from Taiwan. It was for a Toyota 4runner V6. "Autozone Duralast" was written on the package. Anyway: Monroe, KYB, or Bilstein shocks whenever possible Raybestos or Moog chassis parts usually. If the factory part lasts 150,000 miles or more, I usually don't mind buying the dealer part. I prefer to replace Denso products with official Denso parts. I prefer to replace Hitachi parts with official Hitachi parts. GMB water pumps on vehicles that get less than 9 years from the OE pump. If the OE pump lasts more than 9 years, I usually don't mind buying a dealer part. I replace windshield wipers with "Beam Blades" whenever possible. When replacing light bulbs, I buy bulbs from companies that also make OEM bulbs. Think Wagner, Sylvania, Phillips and so on. I like Raybestos and Akebono brake pads, however, with rotors, I just buy whatever premium grade part is sold by the parts store. I like Beck/Arnley because they often have the exact part the dealer sells, but at a lower price. I don't buy ACDelco, Delphi, or Packard products for political reasons. Same goes for MOPAR stuff. Sometimes I have no other choice, and that makes me angry.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm glad to see I won't be disappointed with the two brands I chose for chassis parts.

Has anyone tried the Raybesto Professional Grade joints? I heard they are really Spicer Pro joints?

For your Accord, I would recommend the OEM pads, which you can get as Beck/Arnley 0891367 (which will be Sumitomo or Advics). If you really prefer ceramic, I'd get the Beck/Arnley Ceramic pads, 0861442C. I have had the Wagners before on our minivan and I found that they were not quiet, and I generally didn't care for them. Since then, I've pretty much gone OEM for brakes.

For brake pads, after using many, many brands on many different vehicles I have locked onto using Posi-Quiet Ceramics on everything. Never noisy, Always fit well, Very low dust, great performance at a great price. Not the only good pads on the market but the best for the price that I have found. Usually Rockauto.com has the best prices/availability on these pads. I have used them on daily-driver, Heavy-duty, light and heavy vehicles and everything in between.

I recently went throught this same thing, as I wanted to do a non-Chinese brake job. I ended up getting Chinese rotors, as there are almost no non-Chinese rotors anymore. Even if you get Chinese rotors, I'd recommend getting a rotor with a painted hat and vanes. I should have spent a little more to get that feature and now I regret not getting it. For front pads I went with Bendix CT-3 pads. Made in Canada. I bedded them in too aggressively and glazed them, but after wearing through the glaze they've been stopping great. I've got about 10k miles on them now. Here's a thread with pics of the pads and Raybestos rotors. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...394#Post2238394 On the rear, I went with Satisfied Brake Products pads for $28 shipped. Also made in Canada. I bought them from JC Whitney, as they had a really good price. Another pad to consider would be the Akebono ProAct. Made in Kentucky and has pretty good reviews online.
