Well, this was a bit of a surprise 🤔

I recently stopped by Carquest pier Inn Ontario to pick up a couple of oil filters for my 2015 Honda CRV. I always open boxes to inspect and make sure I’m getting what the box says and it’s not damaged etc. While inspecting, I found it curious that these have the round holes in the base plate whereas the Carquest blue filters that I use for the Buick have the oblong slots that Purolator who I believe produces these is known for. Each of these filters have louvres at their core and each has orange silicone drain back gaskets. And each shows “made in USA“. I’m just curious as to whether Purolator makes both of these filters or perhaps Carquest is getting the filter for the Honda from another supplier.

Those are both Purolator baseplates. I have the round holes on one of my Purolators, although I cannot recall off of the top of my head, I think it is the PL14477 and PL14476 for the Camry.

In my experience with Purolator and Purolator 'made for' (CQ) for Honda 14610/7317 applications, they have 'always' used round inlet holes in those applications. The oblong inlets are found on some larger applications OFs that Purolator makes ( 85036 shown). Linked is a Purolator made Bosch Prem 3323, the CQ 84356 equivalent. Note the round inlet holes.
In short, the CQ 84356 OF shown, standard Puro design and nothing surprising.
